I have not see the video you mentioned but I have been using Altaro booster for awhile

Here's some spec. Air compressors suck at efficiency. Running a regular compressor for hours at almost 100% duty cycle to fill a tank!

Before I bought my Carette compressor I looked into the shoebox and Altaros. I decided against them for the following reasons ,

the shop compressor that would be supplying it with air is too noisy especially since it would be running off and on for hours when I filled my tanks.

i didn’t want to be watching a slow process for safety I’d be afraid of leaving it alone.

if I was starting over I would get the Daystate 110 v compressor I like the units where the compressor is driven by a belt.they are a lot quieter. 

The $300 Chinese compressor which I have always looked at as a piece of junk has through the tips from other AGN members has been a cheap workable solution as long as you do the proper cooling and maintenance. If I didn’t have the funds to get a belt driven I’d get the $300 (sorry I forgot the brand) compressor if it lasts a year your ahead of the game and any longer is gravy.

Not to cause an argument but you are incorrect on the statement about 100% duty cycle. I own an Altaros booster and couldn't be happier with it. There is an inlet valve which restricts the air flow coming into the unit. All one has to do is adjust the valve to the size compressor supplying the air. Granted the smaller the compressor, the slower the fill times. Boosters of this type do use a lot of air though and you can't expect to run it off of a pancake style unit, but if you have a sizable shop compressor, they are a great choice.

I continually read about all you folks trying to defeat physics. Here's a tip, you cannot. Heat and pressure are irrepressibly linked. It's called the gas laws. Here's another tip. High pressure air is not cheap. All attempts to cheat that truth will fail. So, the best advice is to buy quality upfront, it is less dramatic and always less expensive in the end. Most folks reading this will ignore this advice, but that's what makes the world go around.

You are correct and I agree with you in principle and Boyle’s law is a fact. Many people that want to get in to PCP airguns scrimp and save to have enough cash to buy that dream rifle and they don’t have the $2500 left to buy a cheap decent starter compressor and a tank to store and transport air. So their options left are to buy a hand pump that really only works for pistols or rifles with 2000 psi. Unless you are built like a professional athlete. The other more popular choice is the cheap Chinese pumps that go for $300 I hate those pumps but it’s just like I hated the first car I scraped up money to buy it was a piece of crap but it got me to work. If I was getting started and my choice was wait 2-3 years to buy a good air delivery system or get that junk compressor I would get the junk and pray it can last a few years until I can move up to a quality belt driven compressor. I know most the owners of the cheap compressors skip the need of making the air moister free with their Kotex filters that don’t really work but in reality you do what you got to do to get started in this exciting and addictive sport we are devoted to. So I conclude buy the best you can afford with an eye on doing better in the future. And for those of you that have that quality compressor get the word out with other would be shooters in your area that you will fill their tank and help them out when they are in a bind.

Navy veteran of 10 years Engineman rating provided high quality high pressure air @ 5000 psi for gun turrets I've taken care of all sorts of air compressors coalesced filters dehumidifier and still due it for labs at the base Imho these high pressure air compressors and the dessicant filters I've seen being used on them are not the way to go when it came to high pressure air we've always done the drying @ pressures below 190 psi @30cfm and under otherwise you need very expensive drying and filtration systems I recently purchased the altaros again imho for the argument who want clean dry air shooting through their gun these a booster pump being fed air from a shop compressor follwed by a micron filter, refreiterated drier, 1 micron filter/drier/coalescer , 10 gallon tank for the price guys are payin for these high pressure air compressors you could get this whole setup when my altaros booster gets here I may make a video to show you guys the set up
