Completely unnecessary/useless upgrade to my low power FX 177 compact barrels!

I'm the typical can't leave good enough alone type of person. My DreamTac-compact shoots fantastic so I decided to “upgrade” it. I simply love adding carbon sleeve/reinforcement to all my FX barrels so why not my 300mm 177 barrel? Can it benefit from it? Probably not. Can anyone even see it? Definitely not! So With justifications all sorted out I order a 600mm 177 liner sleeve from ernest, took a while but finally got it today.

The 300mm compact barrel liners are held on by on nut on the end and then suspended in the short shroud by 1 spacer. The goal is to add as much carbon sleeve as possible and leave just enough room for the spacer at the very end. The dremel made quick work of the carbon tube.

Not going to show the finished product because it doesn’t look any different with the shroud on.

So how is the “upgrade” one might ask, does it make any difference? Well, it’s hard to say. It still shoots 1 hole at 20 yards and just about one hole at 30 yards in the wind but I’m the reason for that. Maybe if I try slugs in these then the carbon sleeve might make a difference with some performance improvement? I might try that one day at the range for giggles.

Definitely made a difference on my 500mm, but my 380 shoots so well, I didn't bother. I think barrel whip is much more of an issue with the longer barrels.... But watch, I'll probably put one on my 380, too lol.

Just installed one on my 600mm .30 yesterday along with a superior liner (old extendable crown barrel)

Can't ever be good enough haha

@harrymoreland: My thoughts exactly!

@biohazardman: You nailed it! When it comes to addiction the struggle is real! I also chalk it up to my drive to always find ways for "marginal gains". Hopefully one day they will add up.

@Long_Gun_Dallas: Yes it made a HUGE difference in my 700mm, 600mm and 500mm barrels so I figured why not. At the very least this "upgrade" has same logic as single women wear sexy underwear that no one can see........I just want to feel more confident inside. LOL!

@8thman: Thanks! the FX barrel is capable of good accuracy with the 12.5 grain NSA, wasn’t for the wind I can easily get under 1 MOA @ 100 yards. I’m waiting on a 1:12 slug/heavy barrel from FX in 600mm before I try 177 slugs again though.

However I will bring my Dreamline compact to the range and see what it can do at 100 yards. If I get my tune right I should be able to get close to MOA at least.

At least you won’t have to worry about your shroud centering disc wandering around on the straw when you shoot the gun. My Compact was giving me fits early this summer. I marked my straw when I first got the gun so I could always put the disc back on in the same spot. Every time I took it apart the disc had moved. Even though you didn’t increase the rigidity across the whole length of the tube you have helped with the guns consistency by giving that disc something to butt up against.
