Cometa air guns

Hello everyone,
Have you ever used or seen air guns made by Cometa? I think they're Spanish. A friend of mine said they were quite popular in some parts of Europe, but I know absolutely nothing about them. I found a nice Cometa 400 with a gas ram, but it might be really bad, I don't know. Also, I came across BSA XL Lightning on the internet last night. Has anyone used one of those?

Thank you.

It's a shame that Cometa and Norica have such a small presence in the U.S. I think Air Force is the Cometa importer now IIRC, and from what I can see they offer little support for the brand. I have contacted them several times as to the availability of spare parts and received no response. You would think that these manufacturers would show a greater interest in importers and distributors that would push their brands harder. Even more established brands are not well represented here in my opinion. No American dealers that I'm aware of carry the HW80 and 90 carbine models. And the Diana brand has some models not available here and many variants of available models can't be had here either. The importers and distributors are the problem I think. Check out M&G website and see for yourself. Sorry for the hijack.

I had the RWS-94 .177 a few years ago also. I liked the rifle and regret selling it. It was very accurate and smooth. A few notes: The sear on mine broke in two and had to be replaced. I heard at the time that this is a somewhat common occurence. There is no scope stop, there is a hole on the top of the compression tube, but it is not for a scope stop. I used a one piece mount and never had problems, but just so you know. The trigger blade is plastic, it's a nice trigger but if plastic bothers you then you'll want to know. Because I liked it so much I bought the Cometa Fusion .22 which was the same action in an upgraded stock but with a barrel shroud and baffles. I had problems with pellets nicking the baffles.

That's interesting. The Crosman 3100/Cometa was recalled for sear problems. I have one around here somewhere. One of our sons used to like to shoot it. They were available in the early 80's. Nothing fancy. Looks similar to a FWB 124. But it's far from it. Safety on the rear of the compression tube. Cometa is more popular in Spain and South America.

Hello KWK, I just found a Crosman 3100 / Cometa that I gave to my son back in the early 80’s, l believe they have A leather main spring seal, do you still have the user manual for yours? I’m trying to figure out what the suggested oil is and how many drops to lubricate that seal, I’m sure this is a long shot, but I can’t find any manuals for it anywhere ... thanks! This little rifle used to shoot extremely well, very accurate, fun quiet air gun
