Maybe it is just me, but I really don’t pay a lot of attention to ads that list a price then add + shipping or pp f&f or +3.5%.  I want to know what it is going to cost to get the item without having to exchange a bunch of messages or emails.  When I sell something I figure a price that I will accept that includes shipping and PP.  That way the person reading my ad knows what he has to pay up front.  It saves them time and me time not having to exchange communications.  It does not take that much effort for the seller to figure that stuff out up front.

I feel the same way . I have contacted a couple o guys who want to up their price by what I know is unreasonable amount just to ship it . I have sold many used guns and equipment. I always include shipping costs in price . And appreciate others who do the same !!

To be fair I stumped my toe a bit on my last deal because I didn’t realize it was going to cost $60 to ship, some of you buy and sell on the classifieds all the time and know what it cost others haven’t.
But if a seller is trying to Jack the price in shipping tell them where to stick the items and pop them with a negative so others will know.
If I am going to be dealing with a person on a unsecured $800 deal they need to be willing to talk to me a bit

I was recently contacted by someone who wanted to know if I was willing to negotiate on a fair price for a gun.  Here is how I answered him: “There are really only two “fair” prices: the one I, as a seller, am willing to sell for and the one you, as a buyer, are willing to pay.  I am negotiable, what did you have in mind?  Just remember, unlike most other ads, I include PP fees and shipping in my asking price.”  He thanked me for my tactful response and said he would think about it.

Yes, there are other guns like mine advertised for less, but they also ask for actual shipping + 4% for PP.

While I have bought several guns off the classifieds, I have only sold locally so I really don’t know how much it will be to ship until I actually get it boxed and see.  I probably should do that at least once just so I know.  So, yes, I am taking a chance on my guesstimation when I set a price.  But that is all part of the game.  Last year I sold a high end guitar including shipping thinking it would be 50 or 60 bucks and shipping actually turned out to be $143 and some change.  Plus I ate the PP fees.  So, shipping can be a big part of the equation.

It was a Takamine F-455.  My mistake was I took it to the UPS store and had them box it up.  I should have gone to my local music store and had them ship it for me.  But you live and learn.
