Classified Ad on another site

I joined this site largely to have access to items for sale that pertained to air guns. If I see something that I am interested in and cannot communicate, then how would I or anyone else ever attain 10 posts? What has 30 days membership got to do with integrity or sincerity? I just bought a gun on here that when it arrived the trigger did not work some of the time, the air gauge was broke and when I who am a NON air gun mechanic attempted to fix it; it will not hold air. Whose fault was all that? It was mine for buying the gun. I bought it from a long time member on this site as well. I am pretty sure it was not sold to me with the above known beforehand but I am absolutely sure it was that way when I got it. To his credit, he acknowledged mucking up the trigger and he replaced the air gauge. Big whoop. The trigger still does not work and I may have messed up the air seals somehow because the air gauge was broken when I got the gun. Wonder of wonders though. FX is going to fix the gun under warranty even though I cannot produce any paperwork even though I told them it was my working on the gun and someone else tinkering that messed it up. So length of time on a site is no guarantee of good intentions.

The requirement of a certain number of posts does in fact keep the absolute scammers away that have no knowledge of airguns. They won’t go though the effort to jump though the hoops. I know for a fact that they exist on other web pages and will come after you in numbers especially if you post WTB as I witnessed today. Because in that instance they are after cash instead of merchandise.

That is not to say that you won’t have problems with some here. There are a few bad apples in every crowd but my experience with the classified ads here has been good.

A feature that I’d like to see is, before you can PM someone you have to have reached a certain level like 10 posts, been a member for 30 days, a combination of both or some facsimile thereof.

I agree. There was someone a week or two ago that clearly wanted to post something for sale so he made like 10 posts in a row…What’s your favorite air gun, what scope do you like, do you prefer JSB or H&N pellets? Stuff like that. I get it and I’m sure 99% of members knew what he was doing too. I understand both sides of it but understand why Michael has these rules in place. The reason for the rules is so that the members become familiar with who you are and for you to become familiar with the rules and get to know a few people. Being a member here is a privilege, the rules are not a punishment or hard to follow. Circumventing the rules so you can post your gun for sale quicker often leads to problems and the responses always the same…Well, I didn’t know! Maybe if you had read the rules or been around long enough to see how things work, you would have known. Not always the case but pretty often! Michael and his moderators do a great job of running this site with very few problems. It seems like when there are problems, it always has to do with the Classifieds and someone getting burned. Follow the rules, get to know as many people as possible, be nice and read the AGN Forum Rules. Following these steps will go a long way to help protect you from scammers. One last thing, and this is very important…

Never ever send money to someone’s second cousin’s sister in India, even if their mom just died and they need a plane ticket to the USA as soon as possible! 😂

:) These last two posts. :)

Personally I've had several guys from here reach out to me unsolicited with *great* tips and advice re: this or that project I'm working on, or am in the middle of attempting to fix due to some boneheaded mistake I made. I recently purchased a gun from a member on here that was truly a deal I couldn't pass up - did I research him prior to sending him my money? You betchya I did! ( but I'd also seen LOTS of his posts and just had a feeling he was (is) a good guy ) Sure enough after seeing his outstanding credentials, aka 'Accuracy' here in AGN I had no issues doing business with him.

I'm glad the rules are in place to minimize the scammers. Just my .02 cents on the subject.
