Chronograph selection

My personal impression is that Chronographs with two pass-through triangles, with or without additional light bars are bulky, difficult to operate

at shooting range, and performance is effected by ambient light. I have spent time to research what is available in US and oversee.

The Chrony MK3 and Combro, are very compact, easy to operate, much more reliable as far as lighting condition concerned, but have own problems.

I have purchased a e9800-X3200 and Emerson Gear E9700, both from China. Both work but difference in speed calculation is +/- 30-50 fps.

Both have a small pass through opening. The E9700 USB interface is intended to display a lot of data on Android device.

I have downloaded an Android App but it does not communicate with E9700 . The seller is not helpful. Does anyone have a solution?

The triangle type of chronographs are using an ambient light where brightness of light reaching sensing circuitry is changing by passing through bullet. There is a low and high light thresholds. If passing bullet causes enough difference in light brightness, system works fine. When is too mach or too low of ambient light, the difference with or with out passing bullet is below thresholds and undetectable. The worst, is when ambient light is on thresholds-system will be missing/detecting bullets. That is why people installing controlled lighting light bars. I'm not saying that triangle type system is complete failure. It works fine with proper lighting. New, compact system listed in my previous post exclude possible lighting problem. It also compact and not a bulky. The problem-it is not available in US with warranty. Well... I might be wrong. Please review attached video.

I have the Caldwell and a Combro. In the back yard, I prefer the Caldwell because it's big, bulky and once setup, numbers are easily read. At the range, the Combro comes in on top. Instead of needing to wait till cease fire, go in front of the firing line and set up the Caldwell, I simply use a rubber band and attach the Combro to the barrel and I'm a happy camper.

The only problem with the Combro is reading the numbers. You must get the end of the barrel in a position where you can see the screen. Other than that, a great little design for airgunners.

I also have a Pro Chrono from Competition Electronics along with the Bluetooth module which works excellent with the app that calculates fpe etc. It has vocalizations and seem to work quite accurate. I have been able to use it even out of direct sunlight. Got mine from Amazon.com. Good luck with your choice.

I have the same set up along with the light kit. The bluetooth is pretty keen, I used it at 20 yards and it worked great with my Kindle. I use the chrono with the light kit in my shop (florescent lights) and have never had an issue.
