Choosing a regulator set point

This fantastic thread talks about how to adjust your hammer after you've installed a regulator. Maybe I missed it, but I'm not clear on how to choose your regulated pressure in the first place. Do you just plot unregulated pressure vs. velocity and take the pressure that produces your desired velocity? Or is there more to it than that, since you're going to be adjusting the hammer after installing the reg?

It's close to that. You will actually need a bit more pressure with the reg then you had to have unregged. This is due to the volume of air (plenum) available for the shot. If your desired velocity is at say 120 bar, you may need to set the regulator at 130 bar initially and then fine tune from there based on chrony results.
