This is another confirmed kill, but I could not retrieve it. It is also the first truly off-hand kill I have made in a LONG, LONG time!
A neighbor cut down a Pecan tree several weeks ago and is just now getting around to putting the smaller branches/debris out in the alley for the city to pick up. Of course, the chippers found the brush pile and 2 of them were scampering all over it. So, I decided to take a chance with an off-hand shot.
The shot was ~17 yards, standing and I dialed the zoom back to about 12x. The chipper sat still for me and the hit was solid, but it was not a perfect heart shot as the chipper was able to run a short distance deep into the brush pile. I visually traced the tiny blood trail into the back of the pile and could just make out the dead chipper in the dark recesses. The other one disappeared and I have not seen it again... yet.
Oh well, I hate it when I can't retrieve them or at least get a pic, but it happens. It just seems to be happening more lately... (sigh)
In any case, that is my first truly off-hand shot in a long, LONG time and I don't think I did too badly. At least not as bad as I thought I might. (grin)
~17 yards with .177 Benjamin Fortitude Gen2 using LUM77 10.5 @ ~750fps for ~12+fpe. Scope is Aim Sports Alpha 6 4.5-27x50, set to about 12x.
Cigar is a CAO Nicaragua Granada (Toro) (6.0"x50) which I am still enjoying as I type this post.
