Cali does have some weird laws- not trying to hijack the thread- but only airguns are allowed to hunt with lead.

Fish and game says: airguns are not firearms and therfore do not need to use non lead ammunition.

Daisy 7.87 wadcutter/flatheads are my 'go to' pellet w/ my Winchester 1977XS. I'm glad Academy's website is working again. I recently tried to order a half dozen boxes from them; but, their website wasn't working. I had to order them from Daisy.com instead.

You're right. These pellets are excellent for pesting out to 30 yards, I use them for nailing hops out of my bird feeder. 

Winchester 1977XS isn't a low powered air rifle though. At 10 pumps it will shoot these 7.87's at 795 fps / 10.5 fpe. I usually shoot them w/ 3 pumps for the hosps getting 562 fps / 5.5 fpe. Or, at 5 pumps getting 655 fps/ 7.5 fpe which is good for 25 yards.

Edit -- Academy is sold out again, eh? Figures. No need to worry guys. Daisy.com has plenty.of the 250 pellet boxes and 500 count tins of them.

When I see those old paper tubes of Daisy BB's on the Academy site it just floods my brain with memories. Those were literally gold to us 9/10 year old boys. 

In case anyone ever wondered ... Daisy 7.87 flathead / wadcutters work great on pigeons when fired out of a Winchester 1977XS at 7 pumps for 731 fps / 9.3 fpe. The pigeon I just shot at my bird feeder certainly thought so. That wadcutter slammed it right down and it was DRT. My cats are playing w/ it now.

I just nailed another hosp at my bird feeder using my Winchester 1977XS w/ a Daisy 7.87 gr wadcutter and 3 pumps. My younger cat Velvet is playing w/ it now, sucking the brain out of it since I blew the top of its head off.
