CD/DVD Case Turned Pellet Trap

I've been kicking around the idea of a DIY pellet trap. My wife brought home a used CD/DVD case and an idea was born. I knew I'd have to fill it with something that would stop the pellets...but what? I turned to the internet and found this guy's awesome pellet trap, tested HARD!

Rubber mulch! I never knew it existed until a few hours ago.

First thing was to take off that weak backing that comes with most CD/DVD cases and mount up better backing. I found the white scrap out by the trash. One man's trash...

Good ingenuity, may I suggest a steel plate on the back side just incase?

CA

1/4" minimum at that range.

Matt

Unless he's shooting a big bore it's not necessary with packed rubber mulch. I've shot my rubber mulch trap with a .25 Sumatra and the pellets go in 4" max.

I was taking into consideration the short, indoor distance and the fact that when target shooting, You're hitting the same spot over and over.

In that situation, if it were me, I wouldn't skimp on the backing plate. Better to be safe than sorry. My 2 cents is all that is.

By the way, nice job on the pellet trap, Dan. I love the DIY stuff everyone does on here. Always getting new ideas from you guys!

So who red balled me and call me a troll for making a suggestion?

I really don't think I deserved that.

Nope, wasn't me. And I stand by my results and recommendation. I was shooting the Sumatra from 2ft away, and all of the shots into the same spot. I use my trap behind my chrony when testing

It was me. I felt your first comment was pointless and nonsensical.

So, since we need proof, I got proof. My indoor range is 10 yards and I shot this with my most powerful rifle, the F4 .177. Remeber, this is dead on with no rubber mulch to get through. I have these boards pegged as 3/4 laminated press board. Quite stout.

Thanks for the reply, Big Dan :)

I hope you don't think I was attacking your project. I actually think it's pretty cool.

I even gave you a +1 for it.

Have a great day!

Matt

So, I've read a little of CA' s story and gave it some thought. I will PM him shortly.

I must admit that I also felt like you, Matt, were coming to his defense in my thread. I may have read too much into it, but I'm an old school forum junky and my Spidey senses were tingling...

Thank you for the plus one. I wanted to reassure everyone, including me, that the backing was stout enough. If only you'd seen what I was using before!

No one is trying to defend anyone, everyone here wants to help out, especially someone new such as yourself.

No matter how solid that backstop was, I just wanted you to be assured that it wouldn't go through your wall thats all.

I have enough holes in my wall behind all of the backstops I had previously used to prove it. Looks like a shotgun blast.

I don't even know Matt personally but I just know he is a good person just by reading all of his helpful posts and all of the

feedback he got.

Be well
