"Carefully Selected" Pellets?

JSB prints "Carefully Selected" on their pellet tin labels. See it there... just below the image of the pellet?

I say, Prove it! Because this is what I got. See them hiding in there?

Here you go...

I know for sure I hand tossed at least one more that I found in this tin.

I'd expect them to all be the same. I'd accept that there might be a different style of the same caliber mixed in once and a while. Things like that happen from time to time.

But here, I've got .22 redesigns, .22 Diabolo, .177 flat head, .177 diabolo, and .177 ball in this one tin! So, I'll call Pyramid Air and explain the issue and they'll probably offer me a tin of pellets because they're good like that. But, that won't stop me from questioning what exactly I'm getting inside a tin of Casually Selected JSB Exacts.

This is yet another reason why I sort my pellets to one degree or another. I usually don't buy pellets from Pyramid because they are not sold by lot#'s but, the redesigns were pretty scarce when I needed them so, I got them from wherever I could. Why is buying the same lot # important? Here's why...

4 different lot #'s, 4 different skirt depths, all .25cal .25g JSB's.

But, I'll keep buying them because my rifles like them the best.

A rant? Not really, more of a warning to keep an eye on your pellets! I wouldn't want you to rattle a smaller caliber pellet down your barrel by mistake.

Happy Shooting,

Tom

... so it is ... I, like my colleagues in Bulgaria, have found a serious drop in the quality of JSB pellets!

I do not know how it is with the diameter of the pellets but from to the accuracy of the weight position is very bad!

There are a lot of pellets injured and as a whole many colleagues in Bulgaria are increasingly complaining about this brand which is very worrisome ...

And with H&N the situation is not "pink" ... but JSB was not expected ...

30% is the number I keep coming up with. I keep only about 30% of the tin after a full "competition level" sorting. I'll drop about 15% after step one - inspection.

You guys do understand that the number of domed pellets made made is still the small slice in the JSB sales pie. Olympic shooting teams, from junior to senior level shooters buy mostly JSB wad cutters. SO consider that of that small pie piece maybe a couple thousand shooters world wide go to the lengths we do to sort the domed pellets in .177 for FT, 25m benchrest and silhouette. So now you have the few hundred here in america that take a sliver of that small piece remaining shooting .25 and .30 for EBR and perhaps the picture is clearer.

Having said that, and getting to met the owner this week in Poland and asking about shortages it seems demand will always outpace supply, and as such mistakes are made from time to time. So before you bitch and moan, take pot shots and complain put yourself in the shoes of the most popular pellet brand owners shoes. Also imagine if he decided to say **** the aggravation and close up shop. What would you have to shoot with then?

One last thing. The door is wide open right now for someone to start making pellets that are as good or surpass JSB, so who's up for the challenge?

John very well said. And honestly i wish there was someone (cough cough crosman are you listening) here in the states that would step up to the plate and say "yea we are going to make the best damn pellet in the world". I just bought 8 tins of pellet from PA. Got some AA and HN and JSB and Crosmans. Took 10 shots of unsorted, unwashed, un lubed pellets per tin. JSBs won the day, but not by much. There is room for another company to step in and take over.

Not bitching about the quality, but it seems that if you're satisfied with the quality of the JSB pellets, then try something else. I prefer to try other brands and even though the AA is made in the JSB factory, I find them to be a better pellet all around. Am I a world class shooter, nope, but I am a proficient shooter and know what type of accuracy and consistency I want, so it's my choice. I refuse to bitch about any manufacturer, I simply go around them if need be. I also like H&N pellets with the correct diameter indicated on the tin, while they are not as consistent as the AA, they are in fact a good pellet, especially since they can be had in more diameter variance.

Let's face it though, with the growing popularity of air rifles, doesn't it make sense that every pellet factory is having trouble keeping up with supply and demand, thus sacrificing some quality for more quantity to fill the need.

Well on a serious note, I don’t think I’ve seen such a disparity in weight, head size, skirt shape-thickness etc. between lots or even same lot but different tins within said lot?, you are seriously forced to inspect and segregate every tin! (If your using them in competition anyway?) and heaven forbid u find the magic tin or lot because it’s a crap shoot if you didn’t buy 10,000?, because you won’t find them again...
