Can't show good targets all the time. 100 yd work in progress

Man, I got this sweet .30 FX Boss last Wednesday and unexpectantly shot my very first ever sub MOA group. I had an old target sitting out there and it already had five holes in it from my .22 Cricket on a windy day. Seems I can only do something like this when I least expect it?

It was calm that Wednesday and I was shooting the Hatsan Vector Pellets at the target to get a feel for my holdover since I had zeroed the gun for 46 yds. Then I switched pellets and slapped five 44.75 grain JSB's in a row touching each other for my very first sub MOA group. It measured just under 3/4". Of course it was a nice calm day with no wind.

So today I get my FX No Limit rings from Ken over at Spaw and zero my scope at 55 yds. It's 99 fricken degrees and my crazy butt is out there scoping my rifle and trying to shoot 100 yd groups.

It was windy as heck, so I shot 9 shot groups at both targets. Seems I can't pull off a sub MOA when I try too? Still gonna blame it on the wind! LOL. On both groups I did mange to get 5 out of the 9 shots under an inch. I was pretty happy with the verticle shot string on the first target. Both groups shot using 14 MOA holdover. I'll get a calm day sooner or later

I swear I don't know how those guys shoot in the wind like they do at RMAC and EBR?

Fuss

Fuss, wind? Is that what you call the hurricane we shot in during some of the qualification rounds at RMAC? When you're getting 4 mil dot wind drift 100 yards with a .30 caliber 44.8 grain pellet at 885 FPS, its more than just "windy"... ;) Compared to RMAC 2019, EBR 2018 was just a breeze. Look at it this way. If I'd have been out hunting and it started blowing like that, I would have put the gun back in the trunk and gone home...

Haha, yes sir Mike....nothing like that here. Just can't get it together today. Winds are only about 7mph here, but they switch directions on me faster than I can keep up with. Just shot another target and had a 1.125" group, so getting there. Shooting straight from the tin also.

I normally wouldn't shoot in these winds with my .177 or .22, but figured the .30 could handle it better? Not to mention the air feels thick like a blanket.

ironlion......yes sir or some kind of android cyborg combination ;-)

... pointed to the Boss and said "I like that one" LOL

If someone pointed to my Boss and said that, I'd tell him "She's already Married! Get the heck off my property!" and go back to rubbing her feet...

Ironlion, Haha....the next time I have trouble with my "Boss" will you come over and rub her feet for me? LOL You're killin' me bud!

Congats on the sub MOA 100 yard group. And good on you for showing the other groups. One can get the impression from reading some of the posts on forums that sub MOA groups at 100 yards are a synch. +1 on the Boss. Awewome rifle.

Chas

Thanks Chas, it's taken me years to get a MOA group. Hope I can get another one before the year is over? LOL

Gotta have a calm day with no wind to make it happen.

Happy 4th
