Resources Caldwell stinger OOPS!

So I bought the Caldwel stinger thinking it would be great for my first benchrest style support. After I put it all together and tried my avenger on it, it seems like it is way too short for the gun. Has anyone experienced a similar issue and have you made any modifications to it? And I don’t feel like taking it all apart and putting it all back in the plastic bags to return it.

thanks

Yes, I have adjusted the front part all the way forward but the gun seems quite top-heavy and tips over quite easily. The foregrip seems to be a little too wide to fit in the rubber notch in the front, and the rear stock seems to be a little wide to fit in the rear notch. It does set much better when I slide the gun back and put the trigger and trigger guard into the rear rubber notch, but that defeats the whole purpose of being able to shoot the gun.

I find the stinger works well only with certain pcp gun’s. Because of the nature of how that front saddle is molded, I never walk away from a pcp on that thing without first lasso’ing ithe gun down with a bungee cord to the stinger, as the gun could easily tilt off of the rest.

I also purchased the Caldwell Precidion turret Rest, and any gun like say an impact, that doesn’t work well on the stinger, will do well on the Precidion turret rest.

so, in a way, they both compliment each other

This one? I dunno,

This guy was kind enough to show the two times he drops the same air gun completely off in the same video. I have the links to each time he did it here

I think if I was in situation above I would have just found something else like bags if it seem sketchy at all. But if I was working on it and this is the only one stand I had, yes, bungie cord. Thankfully I have options. Learn from other people's mistakes and not have to learn from your own.

I keep a flat strap style bungee wrapped on the stinger whenever i put it away for the sole purpose of strapping a pcp to it anytime I leave rest to go check on a target as any gun that’s top heavy with a scope will tilt off of the rest.

The Caldwell precision turret has as built in vice that takes care of that worry.

this was my rest before discovering the Stinger. Sucker is a heavy dog. Worked great with the powder burners, with all types of leveling features and overall length adjustment. This was a Cabelas model back in the 2015 year, and shortly after it’s debut, Cabelas quit selling it. It’s a stout rest. I’ve contemplated selling it but I know I’ll regret it later on
