Buying from the Classifieds FAIL-!

Say a good buddy bought a $750 used gun ($1300 -$1400 when sold new till discontinued few years ago and replaced by current modular model) no known issues stated in the seller's ad so he sent PayPal and receives rifle with a cracked gray laminate stock then addresses the seller to file a claim with no luck then disputes it through PayPal and follows PayPal return instructions and seller outright refused the returned package so it got sent back then no reply or explanation by the seller. PayPal then denies the claim.

Speculation that the stock MIGHT HAVE HAD hairline cracks prior to shipping. Hmmm from CA to FL long trip coulda made the cracks worse?

What to do if the buyer messages me asking how to fix the cracked stock after PayPal rejected his claim and doesn't want to bring this public so the next guy can easily be duped too? Seller doesn't have any negative feedback been a member few years with minimal posts (only 12 posts in nearly 6 years of being a member). No negative feedback and the guy has the money to easily easily easily buy $2000 - $3000 guns no big deal and owns such guns too so it's LIKELY not about can't afford to refund IMHO. Doesn't regularly frequent here based on last date of activity on monitoring him myself can be weeks or like just 1 day 21 hours ago based on last login activity. Guess he sold it since he's probably more into $2000 - $3000 PCPs and bow and arrows or perhaps kin to Stephen only thing Stephen is more of a QB type of guy who likes to write. If you guessed right so far the first possible has zero posts and the second only one post he's the next guy down.

Well at least I know most of you guy's stories that refuse or too scared or too shame to say you all got duped at least KNOW who NOT to deal with. You OTHER guys are all sittng ducks when the victims don't post anything after the fact.

RANT OVER-

First question I would ask is was the PayPal payment done by "F&F" or "G&S" method? And I would ask if the buyer documented the arrival condition of the gun with pictures upon unpacking? I assume the "G&S" method was used since a dispute was filed but this wasn't clearly stated. And if so, it then seems that maybe there are few if any protections for a buyer receiving a defective item from a seller, whether damaged before or during shipping.

Inst shipping damage why seller's by the insurance? A seller ( dealer or private) regardless of "used" condition has an obligation to deliver in whatever condition the ad -phone calls, other- stated. Things get damaged even stolen in shipping. I've experienced damaged but did have 1 stolen.using a UPS store, naturally fully insured. After verifying the buy did not receive anything I refunded his money and filed a claim. That took 6 (six) month's to work though but I did get my money back and the buyer understanding what happened was as happy as one wanting a new airgun that didn't show up could be.

WHY OH WHY ON EARTH WOULD THE SELLER REJECT THAT RETURNED PACKAGE-?

HE ALREADY KNEW IT WAS THE GUN FOR REFUND-!

Seller has no reason to own up there being a problem. If received it back, would be legally confirming a problem exists. Being for many transactions sold "AS-IS" sales are final and pending how paid ? you may just be eating more money trying a undo the deal.

Some folks are funny like that ... soon as they get what they wanted, any owed or good will after the fact evaporates !!

best of luck !

I sold and shipped an air rifle today. My partner in KS asked what I was going to do with the money? (He is not the buyer.) Nothing, until the rifle is delivered. It is in the bank. If the rifle is lost enroute or for some other reason is not deliverable (truck burns up with all the cargo, etc.), then the money will go back to the buyer. It is insured so if it is damaged, it can be returned and I will deal with UPS

AAAAAND THE TWIST-!!!

Wanna know WHY Buyer sent it back in the first place?

Screenshot_2021-03-19-14-22-41.1616199928.png

Buyer paid $60 to send it back THEN an additional $38 ON TOP OF THAT when seller refused UPS delivery for that package since it got rejected. OOWWIIIEEEEEEE-!!!

Looks like buyer loses some money even if PayPal did the refund as planned.

Buyer bought it didn't ask me for this time since he thought PayPal was gonna protect him.

I would have pointed out only 12 posts in 5-6 years but likely said seller is rich anyway.

Then ON THE OTHER HAND I WOULD BE THE CHICKEN $HIT AND WOULDN'T BE POSTING THIS-!

Once the buyer gets confirmation that the return was "refused" he needs to contact Paypal with this information. He needs to CALL them. My daughter went thru something similar the other day. Seller provided her with a return label. It gets delivered but seller tells Paypal "I never received it" and they rule in his favor WITHOUT even looking at the tracking. My daughter calls them and gives them the tracking showing it was delivered. Paypal then reversed their decision and refunded her $$ within the hour.

Note to OP - first time I looked at post was with your edits. But that's what caused the added time. The gun is not the older version

So FREE gun then???

HA-! Reminds me of a similar experience one of my friends in Cali bought a $800 bum gun wouldn't shoot straight from Mike at Citrus Air in Florida he tells Mike he's returning it per PayPal instruction Mike says GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!! (UNQUOTE) (I was even sent screenshots of all his back and fourth texts) then my bud sends it back after knowing PayPal tells him if it gets rejected and returned the refund will be made through PayPal anyway.

FREE GUN we BOTH waiting (he gave me the tracking# to watch too) watching him refuse it LOLOLOLOLOLLIPOPCITY then after getting it back he sends to repair guy $200 later nice shooter-! Sells it for $650 after that-!

No, not so fast - if the buyer has the refund, the package was sent with signature confirmation the shipping service has to attempt delivery, but this time the buyer should not accept the return - the seller having relinquished the funds is unlikely not to receive the package at this stage - am I wrong?

If I found the right ad it does say in like new condition. The pics are not close up enuf.

Imo this is an important issue.

I have not had the funds to get a nice used gun yet. (well If I added all the budget stuff I have, I could barely barely get one. On the other hand I would still have zero experience waiting to buy my first one. Vs I am now a hack kitchen "gunsmith")If I found an ad that hooked me, even tho they were not a very vocal member, the seniority and lack of complaints would make me feel more secure in the transaction.

So I agree it is good humanity to let others know
