Buying an FWB 300s Need pellet recomendations

Hi, I am new as in NEW to air guns and I am buying a 300s.

Until now I thought a pellet was a pellet so I am asking for recommendations for pellets to try in this gun.

Now I read some threads about different size? pellets? Can you actually order a given pellet in different sizes?

I thought handloading for center fires was complicated.

Help and thanks

What shoots the best out of mine

That is exactly through same hole.

I have the most kills from one of my 300s guns shooting 7.9gr Crosman Copperhead pointeds that have been discontinued and replaced by the 7.4gr version. The current Premier 7.9gr Super Points suck and so do the Pirhanas. The 7.9gr Brown Box Premiers shoot almost as good as the discontinued pointeds. The Wal-Mart 7.9gr Premier Hollowpoints shoot ok too for hunting but don't normally shoot any wadcutter type even though these guns were designed to shoot those types best at 10 meters since I shoot out go 55-60 yards where wadcutters seem only accurate to 20 yards or so. You may try the 7.4gr Crosman pointeds or if you find old 7.9gr pointeds buy them all. If yours don't shoot them good at 50 yards I'll buy all of them from you.

I like the Crosman brand pellets specifically in the 300s due to their hardness and what I have seen in regards to killing power in this lower powered gun at long range.

sorry for the late reply.
I purchased a whole sleeve of the Vogel Match green label pellets from them directly after visiting with them (a guy who was head of operations, name escapes me) on the phone For a while one day.
if I remember they are in Colorado.

their website for ordering direct is podiumpellets.com

I am very pleased with the pellets and shoot them in all three of the match rifles I have, a pcp, a SSP and a spring gun. The 8 grain weight seems perfect for all three. The screw top tins are impressive with a foam Liner for the top, The bottom and surrounding the perimeter as well.

As already discussed, kinda depends on what you want to do with the gun.

For proper 10-meter target work, go for a flathead wadcutter match pellet. Vogel, RWS Meisterkugeln and R10, H&N Match in rifle and pistol weights, and JSB Match are all good ones that I've tried. Flatheads are also very effective hunting ammo for small critters (birds, mice) at short range. Match pellets usually weigh a bit over 8 gr in rifle weight (due to curious international rules dictating they match the weight of a 4.5mm lead sphere), and 7.5 gr or so for pistols.

For longer-range work, go for a round-head that will fly a little flatter. I don't have much experience here compared to many on this forum, but like the 7.3 gr Air Arms Falcon and 7.9 gr JSB Exact in mine.

I'm actually not a big fan of Crosman pellets in springers in general, but haven't tried them much in FWB match guns.

Some match pellets are available with different head sizes, varying by thousandths of an inch. Another thing I've never played with, but I'm guessing this doesn't make a very noticeable diff outside of competition shooting. Not something I'd worry about when sussing out a new gun.

You will find that most pellets actually vary much more in their skirt diameter. Crosmans tend to be small, RWS tends to be big, and most are somewhere in between. This can affect velocity, consistency, and "feel" of shooting the sledge FWB system to a surprisingly noticeable degree.

Any gun will have its own preferences. I have an old model 300 that shoots well with just about anything that I stick in it, but my 300S's are surprisingly picky. So, have fun! Playing with different pellets is really pretty interesting, you will enjoy checking out different ones and seeing what they can do. You certainly picked a great rifle to start with!
