Buying a High End Airgun , My Experience in Today's Market

HI Guys,

This is my 1st post over here and I wanted it to be helpful.

This post will be about my recent experience purchasing a “ High End “ gun in today’s world of convoluted , conflicting , and sometimes biased dealers…

I found that most dealers expect you as the buyer to do all the work for them, “ for god’s sake there is such a thing as the internet “ seems to be the prevalent attitude, I’m just here to take your order and your hard earned cash.. Oh and by the way I’ll ship it when I get around to it…

Now granted I may be old school, I am 57 years old, but my honest opinion is if someone is going to spend $ 2000.00 plus on an air rifle I would expect a certain level of customer service.

The Good News is I found a dealer that I feel is Honest, Helpful, Knowledgeable, and Unbiased .. I know this sounds too good to be true, but believe it or not, one does still exist … His name is Ken Hicks over at Southern Precision Air Weapons ( SPAW ) . I found him by accident, well to be completely honest I saw a video review done by Cyclops on youtube when I was researching the Aztec scope and he mentioned SPAW. I had never heard of them so I did a web search and there I found Ken’s site .

I contacted Ken to ask about the scope and I felt right at home, hell we were on the phone for almost an hour.. now again this was just on a $ 400.00 sale, and probably not a hell of a lot margin , I of course ordered the scope.. In that conversation I mentioned that I was in the market for a High End gun and I would be calling back in a few weeks..

Well the few weeks came and went, many hours of research on the web, video’s, and trying to get truthful, unbiased information.. basically to the point of bleary eyed and more confused then ever..

So I call up Ken to discuss what I thought I wanted, he listened patiently to my rambling, confused, and talking in circles, country ass for at least 15 minutes, then in his calm voice he begins to start asking me questions, I wont go into those details but lets just say he was VERY thorough and by the end of the Q & A session I knew without a doubt what the right gun was for me.. He sent me an itemized quote on everything I wanted, by the way his prices are the same as anyone else’s, and I told him I would be back in touch in a couple of days…

Long story short I bought the gun and accessories from him, he went completely through my new gun, set it for my particular use. I received the gun dialed in a ready to go. Inside the gun’s case was a sheet, with my name on it, of a 20 shot string showing each shots velocity, Ft/lbs, power factor, etc.

He also threw in a freebie , Crown Saver Cleaning kit, hey it’s a $ 10.00 item but the bottom line is he did Not have to do so, it just shows the character , integrity, and adds a personal touch in an otherwise impersonal market.

The Bottom Line, if you want old school, personal service, give Ken a call, you will be glad you did and you will be a customer for life….

I have to agree with you about customer service, for the most part it exists only in a distant past. When I find a place that really cares about their customers, they have my business even if they aren't always the cheapest alternative. Knowing they'll be there for you after the sale is worth paying a bit extra upfront.

Which hun did you buy sir ?

I'll tell you about customer service. Evgeny Pigrov of AirGunTechnology who produces the Vulcan knows how to treat his customers. My regulator wouldn't regulate, I've had this gun for two plus years, so I e-mailed AGT about my problem asking what part in the regulator I might need. The next day I received a e-mail back stating my parts were shipped. Ten days later my parts arrived and when I opened the package I couldn't believe what I saw. A whole new updated regulator, free of charge!!! Are you kidding me??? I checked to see where it was set at with my regulator tester, and it was set to 130 bar, same as my old one was. So I upped it to 135 bar wanting to shoot around 900+ fps. And this wasn't the first time they've sent parts at no charge.

To me when we buy these $1500+ PCPs customer service is what I think about, can we get parts when needed. And AGT has proven that they'll stand behind there product.
