BSA R-10 question

Hello Kingston73,

The gun does not come standard with a fill port dust plug! However you can purchase one from ebay/online. Do a google search and you will find many. For me, I had and extra brass factory fill probe available and so I cut it down and drilled a hole (opposite to the two o-rings) so I can add a key ring to it. I use that as my dust cover. Ill have to find it and take a picture of it.

I purchase the BSA r10 SE earlier this year and it did come with a fill port protector which I thought was a nice design with the O-rings that allowed it fit snug. It was a very nice rifle until the bottle blew off of it taking the bottle nut with it ... ripping the brass collar out of the gun. Appeared to be a brass casting issue . Gamo has it now repairing it.

Mine did not come with a dust plug either (just got mine 2weeks ago from PA). I ordered one from XTX plus some o-rings, etc. I have heard other say they use and ear plug. You can do that for a while until you find a proper plug. I will say this is the first probe gun I own. I am not too big on the probe. I like the normal foster fitting. It hisses and squeals but as it get going it quiets down and fills the rifle up. From what I read that is normal and the probe doesn't seal off until it gets under pressure.

Some more r-10 questions: 1. I’m waiting for an o ring kit to be delivered before I take it apart but mine is one of the PA rifles that is of questionable age and it has leaked twice but then stopped leaking. Why/how would a leak fix itself?

2. Reducing power is simply turning the hammer spring, correct? I want a higher shot count and lower power but do not have a chrono so what would a recommended adjustment method be? And reducing power is counter clockwise?

3. Is there a replacement pressure gauge for this that is color coded and / or has more obvious number markings on it? The black gauge with small white hash marks is hard for me to read.

I replaced mine with an Air Arms gauge a while back. I run a RAW CF bottle when I take the rifle out of town, and the AA gauge lets me see the 250bar mark.

I not sure on your first question. It seems if it leaks it leaks. Maybe the bottle was loose? On the the second question I turned my rifle down from around 960 fps (got a little more than 40 shots) to 910 fps and got a little over 70 shots. In both instances I was filled to around 210-215 bar as that is all the air I had in my tank at the time. So you could probably say 50 shots and 80 shots if the rifle had been filled to 232 Bar. Without a chrono I am not sure how you would really ever know. You may just back off one turn on the hammer spring and call it good until you can shoot it over a chrono. I hear what you are saying on the gauge. XTX Air has a nice one that is easy to read. I was going to order one but got used the the factory gauge so I kept it.

I did replace the reg with a Huma but the factory reg was working. I just had some extra cash so I bought one. I seemed to get around the same shot count with both. I don’t remember how much I backed the hammer spring screw off to get from 960 to 910. At least one turn but I don’t think more than 2. I was just shooting through the chrono, adjusting back and forth, and wasn’t keeping track. I was just trying to get it from 21fpe down to below 20fpe in the event I decided to use it in an FT match. The second benefit was shot count. Backing off the hammer spring helped on both counts and made the rifle more quiet. I was using JSB Heavies (10.34gr) for a point of reference on the velocities I was achieving.
