BSA Airsporter

I posted a wtb in the classifieds, but figured I’d post in here also. I’m looking for a BSA airsporter as a Christmas present for my dad. Before we moved to the USA, it’s the gun I learned to shoot with, and he took it everywhere. We didn’t know the rules on importing guns then. So he left it with his father, who abruptly sold it for pennies. I would really like to find one again, so is there anyone here who knows of somewhere I could look for one? Or who has one that is willing to part with it?

thanks again!

Honestly, unless he's just that nostalgic, a modern rifle might be in order. And easier to get. Likely a better gun too.

I think you’re missing the point. I have plenty of other guns we shoot together. This is to remember what started us in this sport many years ago. Yes.....it’s nostalgia driven.

I have sold a couple of guns to satisfy nostalgia. I sold an iZH 22 to a fellow who had one as a child in the Soviet Union. This was a Soviet domestic model with black plastic stock, so it really filled the bill. The other was a Crosman 622 which the buyer used to hunt pigeons as a child on an Iowa farm. My first airgun was a Winchester 427 which I still have and still enjoy.

Probably a late MK6 or MK 7 if early 80s. Im no expert though. The tap loaders are nice but the end caps make them a pain to work on. The RB2s are much easier t work on and have the parachute piston seal. Dave Slade can work on them when you find one if it needs its internals worked on.

It would be nice if we could ship them from the UK but no shops that I know of will at this time. Best bet might be to bring one back next visit. I bought a nice walnut stock and had a friend from Uni ship it but it got stopped in customs as a gun part. Ended up having another friend in the RAF bring it in his luggage when he came back State side.

Airsporters with the tap aren't that bad to work on they're only 10 or 11 foot pound springs. You need strong hands. Put the action gently in a vise with soft jaws then turn the trigger block with a bar through that hole to loosen it. The US version RB2's are stronger springs and also have the pesky Maxi grip scope rail to deal with. I'd say their harder IMHO.
