Brocock concept

I’ve been looking at this gun for a while now. I am really interested! I would love to hear from you guys and gals what your thoughts and experience with this gun are. I am Mostly looking to plink. 100 yards max. Ammo cost aside and the whole discussion of pellet variety aside (in .22). Is this a solid candidate in the .25 and/or .22 platform. I like the idea of a .25 but am afraid of this platform not able to deliver a solid power and shot count. Anyway, the wife gave me the green light for a new toy but before I pull the trigger..I want to hear your thoughts. YouTube reviews, I feel are skewed by sponsored folks and those trying to justify their purchase. I want real-life honest unbiased opinions and this community is the place for that. Also, looking at dreamline compact. Thanks in advance

I shoot 3 calibers mostly in my yard out to 70 yards max, though I enjoy them all the .22 is the most relaxing, calmest, quietest, cheapest one to shoot. Uses the least amount of air per shot and 500, 18gr pellets per tin compared to 300- .25 heavys and 150- .30s.

 .22 Wildcat, 500mm barrel, 910fps, 40 shots per 225bar fill, wicked accurate.

Bought through Ken Hicks SPAW

I recently bought the Brocock 25 Commander (standard NON HP) and it's not a 100 yard target gun Its a 40fpe max shooter to hunt to put a big hole in small game under 85 yards with. The Concept will have very little shots and the Brocock's in 25 caliber do not have the slingshot hammer system make them consistent shot to shot as do the 22 and 177s. You are better off with a 22 over a 25 in this case but you are also better off getting one with at least a 480cc bottle. They are not 100 yard guns either way.

I also bought a 22 Daystate Renegade standard as well 22 HP Renegade just recently.

Get the 22 Renegade HP if you want to shoot 100 yards. The standard Renegade in 22 is good till around 85 yards.

I don't have an entry level FX Dreamlites but have couple of Wildcats and Impacts. I would grab one of my 25 caliber Impacts first in the FX stable to do 100 yard shooting when speaking of FX.

@slippy5150, I own two Brococks both in .22 a Compatto and a Bantam Sniper HR. Both have been reliable and accurate for thousands of pellets down range. Easy dimes at 40 and 50 yards when conditions are right and you do your part. And while I will agree they are not 100 yard guns. I have made multiple kills on pigeons out to 100 yards. My best 5 shot group at 100 yards with the Bantam 1” (shot in optimal conditions). They are so good that my next purchase will either be a Concept or the new Daystate Revere.

i have a .22 compatto . added a huma reg. tuned to 800 fps with 15.89gr. i get 50 shots on the reg. very accurate! dont let people scare you away and tell u it does not have a match trigger. agreed it does not. but it is a very crisp trigger and breaks clean at around 2 pounds. i like it so well im thinking of increasing the trigger a bit on my wildcat. of course i hunt with my guns. and thats the trigger i like.

i prefer my compatto over my .25 wildcat.

I have a Brocock Compatto Sniper XR in .117 / 4.5 mm which has the Huma Regulator, and I did a shot string on the high power setting that gave me 45ish shots at 16.5 foot / lbs with 10.34 JSBs. Honestly, I like the look of the Concept, but it is essentially a different cosmetic version of the Compatto. So if you don’t mind not having the Concept look etc, get a Compatto in .22 cal, same gun same shot count and features, minus the military options, i.e. collapsible stock and rail. And the Compatto is probably more available AND $100 to $200 cheaper than the Concept. If you really want the “adaptability” of the Concept and look, look at the tactical version from FX in the Dreamline series, IMHO because it truly a modular platform.

You may not want to shoot the King Heavies , but I don't think the Concept is capable of pushing them fast enough. The Kings are max 100 yards in most of my rifles and get blown way more than the Jumbo Monster RDs. Add the air usage and expense... 22 all the way for me. That said, when you hit something with a 25 compared to a 22, the difference is noticeable. All about what YOU value, though.

For that platform, my recommendation would be 22.

My first big-league PCP after my Gamo Urban was a Brocock Commander Hi-Lite with a DonnyFL Koi. I really liked the rifle and put over 7,000 pellets through it. I purchased a bolt action Concept Lite there after for my older daughters to co-plink with me. I found that I became to like the Concept Lite over the Commander much more. It wasn't quite as heavy, a little better balanced, and was more like an M-4 and a carbine than the Commander. I sold the Commander to a member here on the forums and kept the Concept Lite because my older daughters have moved on to other things and don't plink as much.

I would immediately buy another Concept Lite if this one broke. I love the solid aluminum frame and the weight balance. I am 5' 11" 195# and plink with 14.3gr CPDs. On the chrony the 3rd from the 4th max power setting gives me a consistent 30 shots at around 860-865 FPS. I can easily reach out to 75 yards but 100 yards may be a bit more tricky at those power settings. On high power I can get 20 shots before I start to creep up near the 150 bar regulator. I want to say high power on the chrony was about 25 FPS faster so not really worth it. Low power is around 600 FPS. So using the Chrony and 14.3gr CPDs:

  • 4th click High - 885 FPS / 20 shots @ 230 bar
  • 3rd click Medium - 860 FPS / 30-40 shots @ 230 bar
  • 2nd click Untested
  • 1st click Low - 598 FPS / ?? shots @ 230 bar

I'm not a fan of fill probes so I leave the fill probe in the air cyclinder 24x7 and just place a dust cover over the foster fitting end.

Accuracy wise I am blown away with the choked barrel. It eats up the 14.3gr CPDs in .22 better than my Commander did. At 75 yards I can shoot the butt off an ant shot and shot again. From an accuracy aspect I believe it rivals or exceeds my father's Daystate Pulsar.

Hope this helps. I am a huge fan of it... but you may not like it if you're not happy with consistent shots at a consistent FPS. Some folks like to tinker and do slugs and other stuff. No idea how well it works if you need to golden screwdriver it but the bolt action version that I have is exceptional. Not to mention the bolt is way easier to use than the one on the Commander.

For a suppressor, I highly recommend the Ronin. Good suppression to weight. I had an MTC Viper Pro on the Commander but I prefer the UTG Bug Buster on the Concept Lite. It's good enough for my eyes at 75 yards.

For filling, I could easily see one being able to hand pump if needed, a 180cc cylinder shouldn't be too bad. I am crazy accurate with it shooting standing in a weaver stance with my left arm as a tripod into my ribs. It really shoots and balances like an M4. My Commander was more of a bencher being that it had an affinity to be front heavy. The Commander ate my shoulder up a bit cocking it and I do not have this problem with the Concept Lite.

All in all, I give it a 10 of 10 rating. I would buy it again in a heart beat.

Are you sure, that the air cylinder is 180cc?

As for the discussion on the tube size, yes, sjij pointed out that the the Brocock website had 150cc listed, while the AOA website had 180cc listed. I reached out to my AOA contacts and they updated the website. I also did some measurements on the tube of the .177 Concept XR that I have on loan from AOA right now, and 150cc seems correct.

That discussion can all be found here: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/brocock-concept-lite-xr-177/page/2/

Also, hand-pumping the concept was mentioned. This is what I came up with, using a Hill Mk3. A total of 152 strokes, including the pressurizing of the line (twice) to get that 150cc tube from 110 to 250bar. Reg pressure on this one that I have seems to be about 125psi. So, I was below that and went higher than I probably would if I was full-time hand-pumping this gun (further details on the hand-pumping can also be found in the link).

In regards to the discussion about shot counts and caliber choice of this gun, it gets about 70 regulated shots in the 18-19fpe area in the .177. That is pretty dang good for such a small tube. There really seems to be some cool stuff going on with the oem tune of this gun (free floating hammer, light hammer spring, etc).

Even with the efficiency, I think I've got to agree with ArzRover above when he recommends the .22 for this gun (I'll add that the gun in .177 is quite nice too, if 18-19fpe is enough fpe for your intended usage of the gun).

Sweet little gun. My general impression, from the get-go, has been that its design is simply imbued with robustness. SOLID (in performance and design).

Dang, that's a work out. Ok nevermind on the hand pump. My 105cc Gamo Urban I had was exactly 71 strokes from ~130 bar to 232 bar and it wore me out.

That little experiment wasn't the best representation of pump strokes required. Because I started about 15bar less than the reg pressure, and because I went all the way up to 250 bar, it ended up being more pumps than realistically would be required. I imagine I'd settle for something like 60 strokes from 130 bar to 180? and get a good 35-40 shots if the hand pump was my only means of filling the gun. When I used to exclusively hand pump guns, I liked to get to a tune that allowed the gun to be filled in one sitting, which I tried to keep around 50 or 60 strokes so I didn't need to let it cool off and then come back and pump some more.

The little Concept would be a good candidate for this since it's starting out with a relatively high efficiency.

No worries at all and thanks for the response. Now I'm scratching my head going... hmm... how is volume actually measured by marketing. 105cc, 150cc, 180cc, 480cc, etc.

Almost need a volume measurement at indicated internal pressure. Unless already taken can I coin the phrase -- "1 ATM, filled via ATM, $x CC". AAV maybe? 1 atmosphere, from atmosphere, at 1 atmospheric expansion volume calibrated to 70F/30C.

Wait, room temp issues.

0C? :p
