Exactly, it would be in prior experience in many phases and things can change quickly with buyouts, mergers etc. I am relatively new here but I think same goes for any industry. I know I came from the paintball industry and it is all about how well the manufacturers(brand) cater to their clients. We had a top 3 that would fight for market share and go over and above to please. 
Not sure but in my limited air gun experience it would seem to be best and find a local air smith or dealer and put your blind trust in them to tell you what works and what doesn’t. Most brands/ manufacturer care more about bottom line. Usually the top 2 or 3 will have their customer base and that is normally for good reason. Just my thoughts....I have found my local dealer to be invaluable. But if blind faith it must be, I would go with Daystate they seem to have one of the bigger dealer support systems and the couple of Daystate guns I have are near perfect. 

I truly believe I should buy a tipan veteran , but for some reason I really want an edgun R5M.

No such thing for me as "blind trust" or any similar way of wording it. Even brands I have come to recognize as quality manufacturers sometimes put out a lemon. I might be a good bit less worried about certain brands but I still check things out carefully when I get them.
