Brain is scrambled, please help

Ok, so if I am dead center zeroed at 30yards in dead still conditions (no wind at all) and the farther away the target is the farther to the LEFT my POI is ...... Which way does WHICH END of the scope need to go ?

I am just shy of 1/2" left at 40, and a little over an inch left at 55.

Do I need to shim, or should I try a different set of mounts?

I either need to take the front mount left....or the back mount right.... RIGHT?

You should optically center your scope then make sure that the scope is inspecting the center of the bore. What you are experiencing is probably cant or not misaligned scope to bore. Not sure of the correct terminology but hopefully someone corrects it.

It is within 10 clicks of optically centered. No cant (or not enough to matter) as my targets are perfectly level and I go by the lines.

If you are off by 1/2 inch at 40 and a little more than an inch at 55 and both are missing your POI to the left … just turn your windage knob to the right a couple of clicks.

You say that you are 10 clicks off of being optically centered, should be plenty of adjustment in your windage to pull the group into where you want your POI to be. If you are saying that you have run out of windage adjustment … then you are not optically centered.

Something else that might help is to switch your front mount to the rear and the rear to the front.

You could also try getting a mount that is adjustable for windage.

What type of gun and scope are you using?

You can always try putting in a shim but shims are a lot easier to use for correcting elevation than windage and you always have to be sure you don't tork the mount screws in too much and end up damaging your scope.

Ya , the front of the scope needs to go left, you are correct

edit: did you double check your scope being true to the barrel first, like all the other are saying, the mirror trick works good for an easy check

I believe you are experiencing cant error, or more explicitly scope cant error. The verticle axis of your reticle is not in line with the bore. It is likely your reticle is canted CCW as you face the gun, which would cause the poi to march to the left as range is increased. Try using the "mirror method" to correct the scope cant error. Place a mirror downrange and with the rifle securely supported and leveled as best you can, in a vise or bags, and your scope rings loose enough to rotate the scope in the rings. View the image in the mirror of your scope bell and muzzle. Rotate your scope in the rings until the image reflected back from the mirror show that the verticle axis of the reticle bisects both the muzzle AND the scope bell. Carefully retighten the rings and check again the reticle alignment.

Thanks. Yeah the alignment is good as best I can tell.

I suspect that my line of sight is not parallel to the direction of pellet travel.

If it matters it is a Prod with a Hawke 3-9x40AO and UTG 6 screw mounts.

I think you need to zero at 50 yds (using the proper mildot or line on your scope). Then look at your 40 and 30yds impacts. Let us know what you see.

Hi fishnwrench. Here's a thought.Could the pellets be curving in flight? I have a rifle that does that. Have you tried other pellets?

I did consider that, but don't know how I'd check it. They are .22 Hades and group fantastic.

It appears that I have somehow offended a few of you. Sorry! I'm slightly offended myself when you start dragging me through the coals over the proper torque on a mount screw. I appreciate your assistance but I REALLY don't think that is the cause.
