'Bout time for a new target.....

A while back I built a target/backstop out of some wood I had laying around. It's done an outstanding job, but needs to be retired. I've completely shot a large whole through it. I was thinking about how to go about building a new one or just repairing the old one, when I saw the post and video by Intenseaty22 a while back and his homemade target/pellet trap. I thought...that would work great. It would also trap the lead instead of it piling up on the ground around the target. I finally went to Lowes today and got the stuff needed to build it. One of the great things about this place is the free sharing of ideas and knowledge amongst members. This kind of thing benefits everyone here and the sport as a whole. Thanks Intenseaty22 and everyone else that helps and shares useful ideas and knowledge. It's much appreciated.

Thats what you do. You don't shoot the lid. You cut a "window" in the lid and place a board of some type, like card board, in the window. The target board is cut larger than the hole in the lid so that the lid holds it. The tension created by the rubber mulch puts pressure on the board..against the lid to hold it in place. When you shoot up the target board, you just replace it with a new one.

Square (so it doesn't roll) Kitty Litter Box. If you have a cat or cats, or know someone with cats, you will have a never-ending supply of these boxes. Simply fill with Rubber Mulch, use quality duct tape over the lid and blast away. My 25 cal. Cricket, that shoots hot at 950-960 fps, only penetrates a few inches in the mulch. These boxes have a handle, so when done you just pick it up and walk away with it. Im still on my original box after thousands of shots. When it gets shot up, just put on a layer or two of new duct tape. Funny, when shooting really low-powered guns, like CO2 pistols, etc, the pellets dont penetrate, but stay in a neat pile right in front. I have found that you need about 350-400 fps to penetrate these lids & duct tape. Not shown in the pic, but I recently screwed a steel paper clamp to the top ridge of the lid, so now I just pinch open the clamp and insert a paper target. Easy as pie.
