Multi-cal Boss project.

What can I say I love the old school. This has been in the works a while, Chuck/Jimmy passed along the STX barrel and once I found out there's no way to fit it to the Royale I kind of decided to find one used. Trying to find a used one in Canada isn't that likely, and if I got one from the US it would have a moderator that would need to be removed then some run around to try and get it done.

So I contacted FXUSA and basically made up a list of what I need, which was the Breech block complete with all internals minus regulator, manometer. I also had the black pepper stock from the Royale and the aluminum bottle (for now).

I'm going to have an adapter made up to be able to attach to the ST or LW Poly I have from the Royale and run .22, .25 or .30 out of the Boss. I'll probably have the Royale setup in .22 and the Boss in .25.

I believe this is an impact brass barrel inlet I've modified to fit the transfer port/mag dimple distance to match the Boss. It's not pretty I don't have a lathe but it'll work.

All assembled with it's little brother, the Boss is wearing an STX barrel in .25. Had to elongate the section Chuck sanded down about another inch to get it to slide home. I'll be able to use my .25 mags as well in the Boss. I will blue the end of the STX where it's been sanded.

So i went to the range this morning and something seemed off, it wasn't shooting too powerfully as I was expecting. I got it up to about 50FPE but wasn't sounding right. I get it home and wanted to actually try the lighter Royale hammer weight to see when I pull the one out of the Royale and it's the Boss hammer weight I clued in.

I was shooting with the lighter Royale hammer weight.

Long story short 930 with the King heavies 65 FPE

860 with Eunjin 43.2 for a WHOPPING 71 FPE.

What length barrel and what BAR/PSI you running on reg?? I would need to personally run 150 bar to hit those numbers! Nice job chief.

Wonder how accuracy is with the heavies doing 930 out of your setup. Makes me wanna bump up my reg pressure :p

It's a 600mm STX, with the B liner. Stock on the Boss is 160 Bar, I had it set at 150 in the Royale and gave it a little turn up this morning. I can use my Royale as a reg tester, but I'm not too fussed about the exact number. I can also pull the Huma out of the Royale and put in the Boss which would gain me a bit more plenum space and possibly a little bump in power. I'll most likely get a Wika gauge and Huma for the Boss in the near future.

This is all stock parts no porting or anything, I've had great results at 900 and a bit over with heavies I bet it would be similar results at 930. The Royale with the .25 original ST is more accurate (with pellets) so far, the plan for this gun is more leaning towards the .25 slug liner when they come out.

And thanks Matt!

😃 Oh my God those numbers are music to the ears of a power head like me Nathan... 65 fpe with the Heavy's and 71 fpe with the Eun Jins! Brings back fond memories of my .25 Sumatra days. The boss project turned out great and that gorgeous stock makes the expense of the parts all worthwhile. I am hoping you can get a slug liner soon for her because besides greater accuracy they carry more energy down range than pellets...and I am very curious to know how the Eun Jins shoot out of the slug liner also.

A new bluing job on the X barrel tube and you have a beautiful heirloom rifle that has the power and good looks to be proud of...congratulations on a job well done! I know you are going to have a lot of fun tinkering with her in the pursuit of perfection.

All the best and Merry Christmas, Chuck

Thanks Chuck, put the Huma in today and got 74fpe. Sounds like the adapter is going to be made up this week so I'm eager to try out the .22 LW barrel and see if I can get 60 or close to it with that.

Its based on speed here, over 500fps you need a firearms license. So you can have a .30 cal shooting 495 and you don't need one.

For air pistols theyre limited to 500 fps even with a firearms license. So i can go buy a .50 desert eagle but cant have a pcp pistol that shoots 600fps. I have the restricted license as well that includes handguns and guns like ar15s. Laughable but thems the rules here.

Once you have a firearms license like i have theres no power limit on airguns (other than pistols)

Well got the little adapter I had made up and drilled a hole for the transfer port and opened up the last little bit of ID. This will allow me to use any of my Royale barrels in the Boss as well, has 2 set screws securing it to the barrel but it's a very tight fit. Not going anywhere.

.22 Lothar Walther unchoked polygon in a Boss, probe slides in like butter and no funny air leaks. Get to try this out at high power hopefully soon, but way too loud to test inside at the moment. Already shot some low power inside.

The front of the barrel is supported by that shoulder. I still need to figure out something for that one section but I think it just needs to be a round shim more than anything.

Hey Nathan check out all the cool slugs in 22 caliber at mr hollowpoint. Com. If he doesn't have the exact size you need Bob will run some slugs through a sizer for you so they are the right size for your Barrel if necessary. I have known Bob Vogel for many years and vouch for the consistency and quality of his slugs. He really makes some nice stuff... mostly hollowpoint out of pure soft lead that expand to double their size on impact
