Bore off center of the barrel? Should I be worried?

So after receiving and cleaning my new Hatsan Edge .177 spring barrel purchase I noticed something different... It's a little fuzzy but look at where that pellet sits in relation to the seal. Looks like it's favoring the left.

so maybe not bored center of the barrel or maybe the seal is off center to the bore?!

Question is should I worry? I got 25 days to keep or go through pain in the ass rma.

Heard stuff on the web saying it's ok if it's bored off center 12 or 6 position. Not the case here. I have not yet shot it because I am working on a decent pellet trap. I may try to shoot tomorrow given the weather.

Going to try the tissue round the breach trick to see if there is a seal issue.

Repeatability is the word.

The barrel is not moving/rotating. IF...the barrel rotated, yes you would have a problem. Since the barrel is solidly mounted, and once you get your sighting situated, you'll be fine.

A short distance to the target, again, you have no problems. Moving to a longer distance (15ft, to 25yrds.), yes, you'll probably have to move your sights slightly more than if the bore was perfectly centered. Remember, there is no such thing as perfect. All bores are off some amount to the o.d. of the barrel. Yours is just visible.

If...you remove the barrel, then you will have to complete your sighting-in again.

As previously stated - if it shoots well it may be ok. If you have open sight on the gun try sighting it in at the further limits of the guns range...and make sure that you have enough windage and elevation adjustment in your sights. And then check to see if the sight is not too noticeably off-center as that is a deal-breaker for me! If it is a scope...make sure you have enough additional adjustment past the POI. I have a had several Sheridan air rifles where the barrels were off enough to be very annoying. Like my slightly crooked nose😉!

Well I got delayed today due to bad weather here in Michigan. Slight change of plans I am going to make an indoor shooting area in the basement. It's probably the safest place anyway since I have close neighbors and no derm in place.

I made a cardboard pellet trap and will work on a layered plywood and blankets backdrop. Now I can shoot anytime rain or shine. Michigan dnr also has state run shooting ranges both manned with staff and unmanned. Really organized too with ranges from 25m to 100m.

Funny been here 6 years just learned about these ranges. And now they are closed due to corvid. Bullshawgle!!

I agree with you on many points. As long as as it's consistent when zero at a certain range. Now the elevation adjustment on the fly so to speak with mil dots would be off. Unless I tweak the reticle to match the tilted trajectory of the pellet. If that makes any sense.

The bore is fine. It's the breech seal recess that's off.

Look at the amount of metal on each side of the seal in your photo - it is clearly off-center to the right a bit, while the bore looks to be dead center in the breech block. This shouldn't cause any problems.

Modern airgun barrels are not made by drilling through a solid rod, they start out as a special heavy-wall tubing. The manufacturers buy this stuff by the mile, then cut them to length, rifle and crown them, and fit them to the breech block.

I guess you could get the barrel off-center in the breech block, but I'm not sure it's even possible for the bore to be off-center within the barrel.

Well I got the opportunity to fire a whole one round today. As for the one it was accurate using the artillery hold. Rifle was very loud too.

You're right about the bore being center and the seal grommet being off. Did not do tissue test but seems like this thing is super solid and a keeper. I doubt it's losing air because the damn thing sounds like it broke the sound barrier.

I wish I had a chrony for testing.

Just an update... I was concerned about this rifle and it turned out to be the most accurate. I did get a chrony and looks like it tested fine. Mater of fact I just bought another one. Why idk parts? Maybe to have one ready to go if one breaks. 2 is 1 and 1 is none right?

I will not stop singing Hatsans praises. I found when I think I have an issue with a rifle or scope or whatever it's usually been user error.

Next move is to go pcp. I will go Hatsan for brand loyalty unless some thing else blows my top. I have hesitated to purchase a pcp as you need more equipment.

Like sniper elite 4 I am doing headshots on plastic army men at 30 ft with iron sights consistently. I can barely see it I just aimed for the top of the green spot and headshots 3x in a row. This is why I own 4 Hatsans.
