Boneheaded Move

Should put this under Projectiles:

So got a new-to-me Hatsan BullBoss .25cal. I get all giddy, check it out and had unscrewed the cap cover to the QE at the muzzle to put a Donny FL on. I cock it, no magazine, safety off....pull the trigger...BLAM!! Something shot out! I have this dumbfounded look on my face like did the seller have it loaded!!?? Did I just put a hole in my house!?

I walk across the room and find a metal shroud. Then I see felt pieces and little plastic parts. I shot the inside of the baffles out!! Oopths. LoL. It was so fast like shot shell wadding. Hit a rubbermaid container so hard it made a 14" white stress-line that plastic gets when it is fatigued. haha

So first timer to a Hatsan is interesting...all on me. It should call it the Hatsan BoneHead. I slap a Donny Emperor on and it's QUIET though!!

David,

What did Santa tell Ralphie in The Christmas Story?!?! 🤣

The Hatsan barrels marked "QE" stand for Quiet Energy"
What you did here is you shot out all of the magic inside that makes them Quiet.
But as you also found out - They still deliver some impressive Energy. hahaha

Glad you're okay, and didn't completely destroy anything! Now ya know..
You can either re-pack / re-baffle the OEM barrel shroud, or just use your DFL suppressor..
It'll be quieter either way, but, with the combo of both, it'll be Super Quiet! 👍

And...

I'm stoked that you finally got all of your goodies and get to play with everything now!

Awesome!

🙂

Your poor dignity..

I'd be watching your back if I were you! 🤣

Cool man, yeah leaving the baffling materials out will just create a bigger chamber like you mentioned..
I actually have an 'Extender' now - basically just a hollow tube, and that's exactly what it does..

When used w/ a few of my .22s, it's unreal how quiet they are! It's for my .25 setup though.

I fired that thing once with just the naked barrel - no shroud installed, - inside.. OMG it was L-O-U-D..

Oh no.. I just got an idea..

Go find some big marshmellows and enjoy your new high powered Nerf-gun. 😃

Could you clarify what exactly happened here? I had something similar happen recently and am curious. It sounds like you dry fired the rifle, unknown pressure, and it blew the guts to your shroud across the room, is that right? If so, why would a dry fire do that? What did you do wrong?

Azycray,

What you mentioned is exactly what happened.
The barrels are shrouded to help eliminate some of the sound, and with the QE version shrouds,
they use the internal baffling system: baffles, cloth material, and spacer..
To keep the internals in place, the endcap has to be threaded on. Without that, the internals just pull out..
They're relatively light, so, any burst of air from behind will be enough pressure to push them forwards..
In this case, that's what happened.. The dry fire just provided way more than enough pressure to send em' flying.
That's just what happens.. *Just compare this to how a potato gun would function*

🙂

Sweet lookin' pup Sam. Awesome photography as well!

Thankya sir! 🙂

I wish there was a dedicated sub-forum on here for us to drop photos..
I must have tens of thousands by now. [Mostly abandoned / animal / landscape/nature]
Photography is another one of my addictions, ahh, I mean hobbies and passions.

Which sadly reminds me... I think I need to sell an airgun or 2 to replace a lens..
That super-zoom on the upper right.. And a new one is going to be @ $1,700.00

*Ouch*

David, at least you didn't have a pellet in it.

I'll confess one of my bonehead moves if it will make you feel better. I shot a hole in the metal roof of my carport with a 25 gr monster at 900 fps!

I'm too embarrassed to even go into the details, but lesson learned and I won't do it agaiin.

Sam, yowza...I can't afford the camera hobby, but I do know the difference when a photographer takes a photo and when a Joe Blow like me takes a photo as referenced below.

LOL!!!!!!

In one of my finer moments I took a fall going up a steep bank and plunged the muzzle of my Marauder into the dirt. I took a shot with no pellet loaded to blow out the dust, but there was still some in the baffles. I took a shot with the end cap removed and shot all 5 baffles into the brush. Took all my tracking skills and about half an hour, but I found all of them! Live and learn....
