So purchased a new alpha carette and filter, should see it next week, was going the shoebox route but decided to go the stand alone, excited to start filling my own tanks.

Good choice, I love mine! Bought it used from a Forum member here in AZ. He had installed a water recovery system and non resettable hour meter, I added the output filter. So far after 6 fills of my 98 cu ft Great White from 3500-4600 with no issues. Very quiet and smooth running at low rpm's. I've got the auto drain set at 15 minutes but I'm in southern Az where it's normally in the 20-30% RH area.

Well after doing as much research as I could it came down to this, not much bad paper on the unit, I liked the open access, timed water drain, fast fill times and quiet operation plus it's stand alone. The AV unit had my attention but seemed the were more issues on the web, I was really on the fence with the shoebox compressors and almost pulled the trigger on one but did not like the fact that I would be pumping water from one compressor to another and would have to buy another costly inlet filter or plumb out a series of copper pipes and drains or coiled hoses to lesson water intake to the shoebox, plus the alpha outlet filter. That bout sums it up, I don't have the unit yet so no hands on experience to offer. I'll let you folks know once i start playing with it.

Got the carette unboxed, indeed it looks like a nice design unit, very quiet, I need to fab up a bracket to hold to the alpha filter on the mount for the factory carette filter, can't stomach hose clamping the filter to the frame, also going to fab up a expansion tank for the cooling system, no actual use yet but overall looks well built

Just got it a couple of weeks ago. I filled my large tank from 0 to 4200 psi with no problems. Make sure you run it with the filter bleeder open for 5 minutes after using it to get all the condensation out of the unit. Change the oil after the first 5 hours.

I’m really planning on purchasing this unit very soon, I wish someone would post a video of them using this compressor in action. Would be awesome if that were to happen! So it might remove all doubt about pulling the trigger on purchasing the unit.

Thanks grandfather, I Did just that, ran it today for the 1st time, topped off my bottle and played with the auto bleed system, still waiting for my owners Manuel, so you opted for the alpha filter over the carette also, meaning yours did not come with the other vertical filter that's shown in my pics.

No, it has BOTH filters. It goes thru the smaller one first and thru the Alpha just before the air enters the fill tank.

Rick. Congrats on your new pump. I’m confused about the above comments on the Shoebox, water pumps, etc. Are you referring to a Yong Hen? Cause a booster doesn’t require any of that, execpt water filtration just like the Carette.

It's too late for Dirtbikerick, but as a Carette (not Alpha Carette) owner for a year now, I can tell you buyers interested in a Carette that the factory configuration pictured before he removed the factory filter to replace it with the Alpha provides perfectly adequate moisture removal at a lower cost to the owner. Alpha filters are nice, but redundant to the function of the filter that came with the unit from the factory. The purpose of the Alpha filter is additional profit for the seller.

Yeah humdinger I figured that's what he does, I guess it boils down to his business and how he wants to sell the product. I made a grown up decision to buy this unit, what's done is done.

Intensity22, from what I understand when going the shoebox route the water generated from the low pressure compressor has to be minimized before it gets to the shoebox, the best way would be a series of up and down copper connecting pipes with drain valves at each bottom section, then a good water filter at the output before the shoebox. I like building and fabbing up stuff but time seems to be my most valuable commodity, anyway enter the carette.

Gotcha! I got confused with the “pumping water from one compressor to another” I will post a picture of my setup sometime. It’s not that complicated. I have a few filters in line and that’s about it. Recently added the Alpha filter post Booster just to be safe.
