Best scopes for springers??

I had a Hawke Sport HD 4-12x50 on my RWS 34P (packaged with the gun). After a little over a year and 2000 shots later the reticle turned CCW. I called Hawke and after talking about what I use it for they upgraded me to an Airmax 3-12x40 (my choice as I don't shoot in low light). Used that for 11 months and 1500 shots and the reticle did the same thing. Called Hawke again and they sent me another one. Been using that scope since last September and so far so good, though I have less than 500 shots through it since. I did have a Vortek HO kit installed after the reticle rotated the second time; hoping that helps as it sure is smoother now.

Even with the issue I had, I'm happy with my Hawke scope and would buy another. Their customer service is outstanding and was painless aside from a little down time. If I could gripe on anything (and it's a little one) it's having to pay for the shipping to send the scope back, though that is likely the case everywhere. If it happens again I'll get it warrantied and put it on a different gun. I cannot imagine that will happen though. I'm usually the one that gets the defective parts/products, but three times in a row would be a first for me.

I have an SWFA SS 12x42 that I was going to put on my 34P and then put the Airmax on my new Hatsan Nova, but I already have it dialed in for the 34P. Plus, I think the fixed power 12X will be better suited to the bench gun Nova

I too am in the market for a springer rated scope. I haven't seen any replies mentioning Leupold. I have been looking at the VX Freedom 3-9×33 EFR. Leupold tells me "no problems" using any of their scopes on a spring piston gun. I had thought about Hawke but some of the things I've read about their warranty scared me off. I also ordered and tried a UTG from Pyramyd but returned it not liking the quality of it.

Leupold scopes are top notch. If it is a Leopold scope that you want to use...I wouldn't balk at it. I would just go ahead, get one and enjoy. They are a top tier scope manufacturer for sure.

I got into a "chat" session with a fellow at PA last weekend and specifically asked him if I bought a certain UTG scope and put it on my springer airgun and it broke on me, could I send it back for a replacement. He danced all around an answer and ended up never really saying they would or would not replace it. So with that I gotta sort of a strange feeling towards PA and scope purchases :(

Good luck on your scope quest my friend. Hope you get a good one.

Just curious, what have you read about their warranty that scared you off?

I do not have any experience with other scope manufacturers, however my personal experience with Hawke's warranty has been great. I've used it twice with ease.

Hmmm.......I will see your Sightron and raise you two Vortex. Both equally priced with strong warranty. My Vortex 4-12x 's are proven tough so far with 7600 shots on one, 1000 on the newer one. Both have similar reticle design. I do like that MOA-20 reticle option in the Sightron, though.

Vortex makes nice Scopes, their warranty can't be beat. I have a Diamondback AO 4x12 that was attached to my D52 and it took a dive, the DB took the brunt of the fall on the patio and had some gnarly patio rash. Vortex VIP warranty sent me a new one. :)

The DB AO has been discontinued, and the Sightron SIH series looks like they could have been produced in the same Filipino factory as the Vortex? Almost like the patent expired on the DB AO design and Sightron changed it up a little?

I've read that the warranty is not transferable. That means if I am not happy with the new scope and have to sell or if I did find and purchase a used one there will be no warranty support. Not good when other brands are offering "no questions asked" for their warranties.

I'm personally leaning towards Hawke Airmax or Bushnell AR for my next go'round.

In just a little over one year I have been though a Gamo 3-9 scope, a CP 3-9, a Simmon's 4x, and 5 (yes FIVE) UTG 3-9x32AO's. All within 16 tins of pellets.

The scope thing with NP/spring guns is just rediculous. If I truly believed that a high dollar scope would hold up I would buy one, but my gut tells me that I'd crush a fine expensive scope just as easily. So I buy mid-priced scopes with lifetime warranties, and I buy them 2 at a time so that I have a backup to use while I'm sending the other one back. The process is getting rather old though.
