Best rifle for 25 yard offhand target shooting?

My R7's in .177 and .20 both wear Hawke Airmax 3-9x40's (yep, older eyes syndrome...lol) but the 2-7x32 version would make for a real nice fit. 10.6 inches long, weighs in at 16.6 ounces. I know some don't like Hawke, but they just keep working, so I keep buying.

My R7's. .177 on top, .20 on the bottom.

Well the rifle ships from the Netherlands so I have a little bit of time to figure out what to do for an optic, and could even see how the irons do if I haven't decided when it arrives.

Thanks to all for the help.

Its not a bad idea to spend some time "breaking it in" with irons anyway. Don't rush on an optic...it's way to important to the overall experience.

If you can afford one try a 10 meter match rifle!! I have an RWS 75to1 match with a recoiless oposing piston system. Perfect for offhand 25 yd shooting...I use mine for pest control inside buildings, with a simple 4x40 scope, dime size groups at 25yds is a breeze. Mine shoot 8.4 gn match pellets at 565 fps and that wadcutter pellet gives good knock down power for pests at closer ranges. Match accuracy and match trigger that cant be beat. Yep will cost more than an R9 or a model 34 but well worth the extra cost!!!

I agree on the 10 meter match rifle here but got here a little late. I love the old FWB 300S for offhand 25yds or less. They are adult size and a true competition spring air gun. What a laser.

I have an HW30S. The gun felt like a "junior" sized airgun which it really is. I made a custom stock so it fit me better. At this time I had a Burris Timberline 4.5-14x32. I use mine to shoot spinners at about 25 yards in the backyard. The women and kids love this thing because it is so light, easy to cock and ergonomically designed for their size.

It is extremely accurate with the RWS Hobby 7.9gr wadcutters which are one of the cheapest pellets out there. It is just not ergonomically designed for adult male offhand competition type shooting. Mine has a lightly downtuned Macarri spring about 595fps.

Too bad a lot of the HW30's still have that galling problem right out of the box. Just Google search HW30 galling.
