Best pellets for the stock .22 Marauder Pistol?

Mine was great with stock barrel and CPs in 14.3. Copper coated Kodiaks were a mess. Sprayed all over.

Then I started tinkering with the port and tuning. Whatever voodoo air delivery dynamic I changed made the gun go to crap with almost everything I tried. Couldn't get it back either. Like 1" groups at 25m. Bad.

Eventually bought a Gaska HF barrel, a Hill valve kit, and a HUMA reg. Shoots with 30% more power (19 ft lbs) and is laser sharp at 25m with JSB 18.1. Cost a lot of $$$ and brain cells tho, but real fun.

I purchased a gen 1 Mrod in 22 a couple years ago, install a floating SSG mod....I think I got it from Motörhead. Anyway the factory barrel shoots really good for me with H&N FTT 5.53 head size 14.6 gr. I bought one tin each of 5.51, 5.52, 5.53 and 5.54 and JSB 18.1 5.51 head size. I found with my barrel the 5.53 were the best. Routinely shoots birds at 75+ yds. The H&N FTT 5.53 are really accurate in my barrel. Once you get the gun I would get several pellets with varying headsize and test at 20 or 25 yds on a rest.

Welcome!

I watched Ted's review, about the copper-plated pellets being preferred. Mine, a late model one, didn't really like them. They were a VERY tight fit in the breech.

I replaced the stock barrel (a bad one) with an older (good) stock barrel.

In each case, it likes H&N FTT and H&N Baracuda Match pellets the best. Baracudas are pretty heavy for it, and are shooting down in the 500s, which I don't like. It also does well at shorter range with PolyMag Shorts. Crosman Premier Domed and Hollow Point also work well, but are not as consistently good as the H&Ns. They CAN shoot tighter, but you get the odd flyer here and there, which is REALLY frustrating. Save that as plinking ammo.

I have a moderator on mine, and adjusted the trigger tension screw out, and it is a sweet shooter. It has grounded quite a lot of pest birds and squirrels with just the right amount of power for short-to-medium range backyard use.

Jeremy what size scope you got on that prod?

Thank you! That's the set up I'm working towards, that awesome man! So I put the P-Rod through its paces today and it didn't like the copper coated pellets. However, it did like both the Predator Polymags (standard and shorts). It shot decent with the FX 16 grain pellets at 5.52 head size. Still the best I could do with the gun was barely sub 1" at 25 yards with the Polymag shorts. It does prefer a larger head size. I was shooting from a rest as well. Accuarcay results leave a lot to be desired. I just ordered a Marmot Militia Hammered Forged barrel for it!
