Best oil for Yong Heng compressor?

The oil linked is really a bit overkill for our air gun use....it is fine, but the real deal with it is for breathing.....IF anything gets past the seals it is not going to cause cancer in lab mice in the peoples republic of Kalafornia.

Hydraulic oil has a slightly lower flash point then motor oil, it also has some different additives as well, but we are not compressing the oil and using it under pressure....but again IF it gets into the high pressure side it SHOULD not diesel.....our chinese compressors use rubber o-rings for sealing so it is doubtful anything would happen, the orings would give.

Any 46 hydraulic oil is fine, really you just want to keep it changed when it starts to change color. If you have watched the slingshot channel's review of the compressor the real weak point is no bearing surface on the crank....this is what you want to keep swimming in clean oil.

I've been using the Royal Purple Synfilm Recip Synthetic Air Compressor lubricant. Seems to work well in the Chinese HP air compressors. FYI, ISO 100 oil is the equivalent of 30 weight SAE motor oil as far as viscosity.

Big over the road trucks use engine oil in their air brake compressors and they last for millions of miles, and years of run time. These little compressors don't see any where near that kind of abuse. The manual for the Air Venturi says use 5w-40 right on the 1st or 2nd page. That only comes in synthetic. And that is good for a year or 50,000 miles in a much harsher environment than these compressors. I have read that little book a couple times and some of it is good, some I can't accept as gospel on compressors.
Merry Christmas All

There is a big difference between low and high compression compressors. But it’s still up to whoever bought it to maintain it like they want. If you want to put in the cheapest oil you can get it may work doing by the book doesn’t always work . I have an older cousin who smokes 3 packs a day and she is close to 90. Right is not always right but it can be.

I would say that Brian pretty much sumed it up with his cousin’s “lucky” life analogy !!

OK, I don't need the "best" oil but just one that can support normal use. I followed the instruction of the manufacturer and used #46 anti-wear hydraulic oil and the result is shown in the picture. The oil turns dark very quickly so the wearing seems to be quick serious. Just wondering if this is the problem of the oil quality or I should switch to other oil such as ISO100 compressor oil as recommended by some members. Anti-wear hydraulic oil is generally recommended by manufacturers for the gear box of milling machines so I am not sure why the need of compressor is apparently so different

Anything with a pressurized oil system and a filter uses high detergent oil that contains dispersants to keep dirt particles suspended in the oil so the filter can remove them before the oil is sent to a bearing. Anything without a pressurized oiling system and a filter uses non-detergent oil so that particles settle rapidly to the bottom of the case and do not go through bearings. Hydraulic oil has a high sulfur content and stinks. Synthetic ester based compressor oil is best for these high pressure pumps. ISO 100.
