Best download app for decible reading

Probably they as good as microphone on your smartphone, I tried few of them while setting up my AV system and didn't see much different between few of them, maybe someone else got different experience.

Get something like this. Cheap (under 20 bucks) and does the job. And looks cool in pics/vids!

In my limited experience with them, I'll say they are all crap. And frankly, whatever you might electronically meter, it is often not consistent with what you hear. Our brain processes sound characteristics as well as volume.

I have the NIOSH sound app on my phone, and it seems to work pretty well. It isn’t scientific grade, but it give a basic ball park. Also, the free version of the dB Meter is pretty good. I guess it comes down to how “precise / scientific” you want to go in measuring sound levels.

I tried a couple of apps on my phone. I know they aren't as precise as a dedicated decibel meter, but for as few times I actually have used it, the price was right. I don't see spending money on something I'll use a couple of times at most.

Be aware that phone microphones have a cutoff feature, so sudden loud noises aren't picked up. Sudden and loud like a shot from an airgun. The downloadable decibel meters work in normal circumstances for background noise, but due to the cutoff circuitry in the phone, they really can't (in my opinion) give accurate readings for sudden loud noises, like an airgun. Take it for what it's worth, but I haven't found a downloadable app yet that really worked for me.
