Best compressor?

Good afternoon. I hope you are all doing well, even with all of this craziness going on in the world.

I’ve been thinking about buying a compressor for quite a while but am seriously concerned about failure and break downs. With my boys and I shooting at least three days a week, even when trying to conserve air, we go through so much. I do not want a Yong Hong or other “cheaper” compressor. I want a quality compressor that is bullet proof and would like it to be fast and quiet. Fast and quiet are not necessary though, I already have an 80cuft scuba tank and 88cuft carbon tank that we use for cascading.

I do not want to spend over $2000, mainly because I can’t afford it but also because both of the Omegas I’ve looked at check all the boxes and were less than $2000. If there is a Daystate or something else that absolutely blows them away for just a bit over $2k, I might consider it. I just really want to hear everyone’s input.

So, what would you consider to be the best compressor for under $2000 and why?

Best for under $1500 and why?

Best for under $1000 and why?

Thank you guys for your time and input! Have a great afternoon. Stoti

Personally I think the yong heng is your best buy under 3000.00 Although I am on a dont buy nothing from China if I can help it kick. The reason I say yong heng is from what i have seen and heard about the other more expensive air compressors they are un reliable and burn up or break down before the warranty expires and most the time are shipped at buyers expense not to mention the wait time and aggravation. I broke down and bought an Alkin and feel i got my moneys worth.

Based on anything that's under $2000 I have to say the ALTAROS I own both electric and self contained booster versions no issues. I can only recommend the YONG HENG if it must be Chinese made. Owned $2000 (original price with shipping factored in) Omega Supercharger and was a tnightmare. Can't imagine a cheaper Chinese Omega to be more reliable since you get what you pay for in life right?

I would stay away from the $2000 Daystate labeled Coltri MCH3 till they get the issues sorted or spend $600 more for the MCH6 version.

The Daystate 110 is sold for $1999.99. If <$2000 was my absolute limit for a new compressor, that's probably what I'd get.

However, after some research, I spent $500 more and got a Coltri MCH6. At $2500, it comes better equipped, it will preform better, and probably last longer.

https://www.nuvair.com/products/compressors/hp/portable/mch6-portable.html

I'd recommend the 220v version over the 110v version, but it is also available in a gasoline powered version for about the same price.

I just uses my Coltri MCH6 to fill a 97 cu ft tank, starting at 2500psi and ending at 4500psi. It took 10.5 minutes from the time I flipped the switch on.

the 2 I like ..and would consider..

omega air charger .. and this

I still use nitrogen.

I have 2 of the Coltri MCH6 one portable easy to carry Honda gas that's crazy stupid loud like a lawn mower without a muffler and the other electric Real quiet in comparison they are fine but if I had to do all over I would go BAUER JR2 but the Alkin is supposed to kick the living crap of the Coktris azz. Just $500 more than the MCH6 . Damn I paid over $4k closer to $5k many years ago for my electric MCH6!!. But it's a hospital medical grade breathable filtered clean air nitrous? mix air model for refilling hospital patients breathing tanks. Is it better than dive quality air? IDK?

I was totally onboard to buy a Coltri MCH -6 with recommendations from members here but I don't have the living accommodations to support one so I was equally disappointed. Then I looked at the Daystate and was overly excited about it because it was also a Coltri at 110v and that was a perfect fit. Well that was until I did more research reading and found out it was just a pig wearing lipstick.

All I can suggest is take the advice given here but also do your own research and reading to find the compressor that fits what you need.

Oh an edit, I ended up buying a HILL for just over $999.00 but can't recommend it yet because 1. It's a new breed 2. Limited time ownership by me and most other owners.

But good luck in finding what you need.

@stoti If one of your top priorities is reliability, I would look at the Altaros Booster. It’s slow, but will fill your tank no problem. It’s like a Singer Sewing machine, just keeps ticking away.

*Around $600 for the unit, a filter, and a shop compressor (that you probably already own) and you are set for $1K or less.

I have a Yong Heng that has been used for a long time now (about 2 years). Still works well-cheap and so far reliable. I also have a gas powered MCH6 compressor that I acquired recently. Loud as a lawnmower without a muffler? Maybe if you drop off the "without a muffler" part I could buy that but not as stated. Still, if one mows their lawn anyway whats wrong with that for 10 minutes at a time? The gas compressor works great for me and can be used ANYWHERE. Hate to say it but it seems the OP may be looking for the "unicorn" compressor-cheap, bulletproof, quiet, and fast. Seems that two and possibly even three of those might be attainable but all four? Seems unlikely. Maybe the Hill unit will be the "unicorn".

Compressors? There are many and they pretty much all involve compromise. I think you have to accept that reality and then decide what compromise(s) you are most willing to deal with.

I personally have spent a small fortune on this stuff and I regret that I didn’t know that spending $2000 wasn’t going to “ do it”. I bought a Daystate which failed and was replaced by AOA Good for them.

I’m using nitrogen but it’s not without its compromises either. Dealing with 300 lb tanks and it’s not cheap.

With the experience that I have I’d buy an Alkin and then hope.

Finally if you buy anything don’t run it hard. Stop at 4000 PSI Push them to the limit and expect early failure

So you want the best compressor. Not a yong yeng. But cant afford a 2000 dallor compressor lmao. Really? The best ones are like the Bauer which is at least 3000 to 5000. Way over your price range. If under 2k. The best are the air venturi compressor, hatsan lighting, and omega supercharger.

.Lmao, not what I said at all...I said, I want a compressor for $2000 bullet proof, fast and quiet but fast and quiet aren’t really necessary. So, I want to spend $2000 and get the most reliable compressor for my money. And, I said I can’t afford over $2000 but would spend a little more than $2k if there were something excellent for just a bit more. The Omega Supercharger is what I had in mind.

Thank you everyone else for your input. I really appreciate it.

Personally I love my Daystate. Yo, could you tell me what the issues are so I'll know what to watch for?

Hold on this isnt the DOOZY F-BOMB DAYSTATE COMPRESSOR PROBLEMS THREAD.

Shall edit to add that thread soon...

https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/daystate-lc-110-dead-at-1195-minutes/

I personally know people who are genuinely worried about theirs quitting at any time without warning after researching problems after the fact.

I personally wouldn't use it to fill past 4000psi. I have the higher end MCH6 x2 of them versions and don't use either fill either past 4000psi.

That last 500psi is the killer.

Yeah Yo, I remember that post. The owner of the airgun shop in my town was having problems with his Daystate at the time that post was written. He had to send it back twice in a row for repair. He started using the Supercharger quite a bit when he was waiting for his Daystate to come back and absolutely raves about it. Seems like it would do what I need but I don’t know a lot about compressors, that’s why I’m asking.
