Best Chronograph?

Good Morning and Happy Mother's Day to any mothers out there!

I have a Caldwell chronograph, it's alright but nothing really special. It seems to give error messages a little too often and never really keeps my shot string accurately. It was very inexpensive and I've used it a lot over the years, I'm not knocking it, just want something better.

I'm ready to upgrade to something that works correctly all the time... not much to ask. I know a lot of people use the Pro Chronograph and I'd like to hear from some people who use the Chrony brand... the Gamma Master, Beta, etc...

I really don't want to spend $600, but I'm even considering the Labradar since my boys and I shoot so much. They just have so many great features and capabilities to take advantage of and explore..

I love to hear what you guys and gals use and like and use.

Thanks, Stoti

I was just thinking the same thing. Which one should I buy right now or do I wait for however long for the FX radar chronograph to come to market. The version Giles had seemed to work very well and looked to be very simple to operate and set up. I would surely be in the market for a $200 model especially that is that compact. Has anyone heard about the FX models arrival date?

Kevin!

Seems to be a popular topic these days. What is it you're looking for, the LabRadar is a very expensive means of getting muzzle velocity readings (Dx0 in LabRadar speak). If your'e interested in obtaining empirical data about how your pellets or slugs are behaving downrange at up to five user set distances then there's a good case for the investment. Another nice feature? firmware updates, Mine was about $800 full kit including the trigger mic. If you're serious I'd check out their manual and see for yourself...

What's up buddy? I was planning on buying the FX version but was told yesterday it won't be available until July-Sept. and that sounded a bit optimistic from our conversation. It sounds like there are a lot of other products getting pushed out first... slug liners and all the Dreamline stuff. I need something sooner than that.

If I went with the Labradar, what would I need in addition to the air gun trigger and the actual Labradar unit? I already have tripods and ball heads. I was thinking I could mount a ball head to the shooting bench for when shooting at home and use it on the tripod when in the field. I saw it on line for $559 plus $44 for the air gun trigger, so $600.

I really don't want to spend that much but the features would be great for the slug testing I plan on continuing as soon as I get a 700mm liner. I was also looking at the Master Chrony with remote readout and printer. It's about $230.

Not really sure what I want to do???

I have the Pro Chrony DLX and love it!

Kevin,

i was starting from scratch so I bought it all just simply to have it turn key. I’d recommend the battery pack which is also available on Amazon without their markup, skip the mini tripod and base plate if you have solid tripods that can take a bit of weight, and you’ll want the trigger mic. The bag, maybe, your call it is well padded.

Pretty cool instrument.

I have the Shooting Chrony Beta model. It keeps track of the number of shots, averages, high/lows, extreme spread, standard deviation and probably a few more things I don't use.

I only use it outside, and it seems to work best when the unit is under a shadow from a tree or beside a building. In direct sun, I sometimes get error messages. I don't use the sun screens and I make sure it is about 3 feet in front of the muzzle. It also is a good idea to place your shots centered over the sensors and at the same height.

I got the Labradar, carrying case, and airgun mic the last time Brownell's had a 10% off coupon (and no sales tax/free shipping). It was hard finding it at any discount.

You can use any USB power bank to power it.

Kevin, Bitey’s point’s we’ll taken; any similarly sized USB bank will work. Get at least the same mili amp hour spec LabRadar offers.
