I almost always shoot off my bipods for target shooting. Seems like I don’t have to fight with the gun as much, especially keeping it vertical. Just seems more solid than bags. What do you prefer more. If bags, is there a reason?

Between those two I like bags filled with fine sand or lead shot other then that a F Class Bipod with lead/sand filled rear bag. The F Class bipod I have is dead stable which I like for long range targets, then I like the bags for shooting out to 100 yards BUT I don’t mind regular bipods either I’m just a bit more shaky with a Harris,Champion,UTG, type bipod.

I have no Idea what class my bipod is (no offense Imold) Its an inexpensive UTG. I took a bunch of old shirts and such and wrapped them in an old towel which I rest my elbow on.
What I find? The higher the bipod, bag, or whatever on the front end. The accuracy suffers if the back end isn’t also stable. Hitting 1″ dingers at 100 yards with consistency with this method.  Pretty hyped about that!.

Do any serious benchresters use bipods? I like bags because the gun rests naturally without stress on the action or stock. Once settled in the bags there shouldn’t be much fighting involved.

Forgot to mention that I’m using a good leather bag on the back and a UTG bipod up front. Though cheap, it’s rock solid and very adjustable. I have the same on all three of my guns. This combination is very solid for me but I may have to experiment a little more with a front bag too.

While I like a good Bipod, (especially the Atlas line of Bipods), I recently purchased 3 different sized Buffalo Leather Bags that I love.  They are really well made and produce a solid rest.

Jimmy, I always shoot off my Atlas clones and rear bag. I’ve shot a couple of 250 benchrest cards with that setup using my Thomas, so it works for me.
Just prefer not to have to drag out the heavy bag , or heavy clunky front rest every time I want to shoot.
I usually have the bipod tilted in the forward direction, but couldn’t do it because my picnic table wasn’t wide enough sitting in the position for the picture below.

I usually shoot this way now days
