Benjamin Trail accuracy problem

I have the trail XL in 22 cal with nitro piston. That gun is very hard to shoot accurately. Like the others said get rid of the sled. My best shooting came when i lightly tucked it in my shoulder and rested it on my hand and let it it kick. Dont try to tame it. My best pellet for it was the crosman premier in the brown box and the cheaper crosman hollow point in the round tin. Dont shoot the benjamin domed. Well at least for me they were not accurate in that gun. Good luck.

look up and learn the artillery hold.

as others have said , a break barrel usually does not like to be held tightly.

lead sled is good for powder burners/pcp airguns/co2/and pumpers, but not break barrels/springers

I did this & rested my hand on the lead sled bag removed from the sled & did NOT grip the stock and my groups have really tightened up. I believe that this was my problem all along as I am used to my M70 30-06 which I have no accuracy problem with. Thanks for your help and at 79 I am not too old to learn something new. I also tried several different types of .22 pellets.

Also, if that is the first tin of pellets, just keep shooting until they are gone to aid in breaking the riflei. 500 to 1000 shots for break in if you can.

Then clean the barrel, fire five shots with the pellet you are testing, and then shoot for group.

Clean the barrel and fire five of the new test pellet before shooting for groups.

Look up the artillery hold and then experiment with your rifle. I grab the sling at the front with the stock resting on the top of my hand with my fingers wrapped around the sling. In the back, i don't use the thumb hole for my thumb, but instead hold my thumb straight up the side of the stock.

I replaced the trigger with a much better replacement.

Having said all of that, i still never found a pellet the rifle would shoot well until recently. The Umarex Ruger Superpoints shoot pretty good out to at least thirty yards, I was betting my grandson on whether or not i could hit the last pellet hole not too long back, and i am still using the scope that came with it. Several of the heavy choices shoot well also, but they hit too law to adjust the scope without shimming.

You can also try seating the pellets you are using, but in my rifle seating them reduced accuracy.

Good luck!

Benjamin Trail NP2 target, distance 25 meters, ten shots, UTG scope, shot off a tv dinner tray, bag on table, hand on bag, gun resting lightly in palm. Lightly pulled into shoulder. Target had no solid backing, so the exposed green is due to tears in the paper. All holes covered by a nickel. As I recall the pellets were H&N Field Target Trophy. Those guns will shoot fairly well, once broken in, and with the right hold.
