Benjamin Maximus Pistol/Carbine

Awhile ago I was trying to decide if I wanted a Prod or a 1720T and was weighing the merits of both here on the forum with help from members when Milehighairgunner suggested I just convert my Maximus. He sent me a photo of a members Discovery that had been converted. I did some research here and on other forums and started gathering parts. I used a Prod grip assembly, hammer, end cap. Other than having to drill and tap the end cap for the rear trigger assembly mounting screw everything just bolted together making a long barrel pistol. Next I added a Prod forearm that required drilling and tapping a new mounting hole because the gauged are mounted slightly different. I used a Maximus barrel band for the forearm forward mounting screw base. I cut the barrel band part off so there would be no pressure on the barrel to effect accuracy. I think the gun will look better with a longer forearm cut from a Maximus stock but haven't gotten that far yet. Then I added a RAI stock adapter with a Trinity Force stock and buffer tube to complete the carbine. Then a GEO LDC and Hawke 2-7x32 scope. I got the shorter stock carbine with pistol grip I wanted that weighs in at 6 lb 10 oz.

FYI here is a quick cost rundown. Crossman $116, Pyramid Air $89, AR15 Discount $48, GEO LDC $28, Maximus $150 =$431 + scope. I'm sure I re-invented the wheel with this build but it was fun to do and I can't wait for the weather to break so I can start putting some pellets downrange with it. .

Done quite a few of those myself. You can also remove the gauge block extension and the gauge will then hug the tube -

Use the Prod gauge block when you do. The threads will match the 1/8" NPT of the gauge and it will provide better air flow to the valve.

Alternately, you can use a 1/8 BSPP threaded gauge with the Maximus gauge block with O-ring.

Did you use a Maximus stock and cut it down to fit or is that a Prod forearm? The gauge hole is in a different location on the Prod and Maximus so I have the Prod forearm slid underneath the gauge to fit.

So the Prod gauge block is a direct interchange with the Maximus? I thought about taking the riser out but couldn't figure out how to get the Prod forearm to fit since the gauge hole in the stock is in a different position. The problem with using a cut off Maximus stock that I can see is that the curve in the trigger guard won't let the Maximus stock lug screw fit under the curve. I tried cutting it down but still didn't have clearance so I made a 2 piece that let me set the socket for the stock screw in place then a 8-32 screw with a turned down head go down through it and tighten the trigger group on.

Look closley at the pic - modified the P-Rod fore arm by removing some material, allowing it to fit. It's just held in back by friction/pressure against the trigger guard.

The P-Rod & Disco tubes have the same id, so yes, the gauge block will fit. You only needed to use the P-Rod end cap to adjust the stroke, but I never mess with that.

Rock on!
