Benjamin BPM77B-N Maximus another PCP newbie question

So I'm now in the market for a PCP air rifle in a small caliber probably 177 or 2 2. Here's the thing though I probably shouldn't be spending money so I'm trying to do it cheaply.

I came across the Benjamin Maximus what impressed me is a 5 year warranty. What do you guys think of the Maximus do any of your own one?

I really want to get into the PCP market but it all adds up really quickly especially with a special pump that you need. Cheapest I could source was about 50 bucks.

I know you guys are going to laugh but I'd like to keep it $250 or less air rifle and pump included. To make it even more challenging I wanted to be a bolt action repeating rifle. Something that'll hold at least six rounds. Smaller tank for sure as I'll be using a hand pump.

there's another Beeman model out there that's fairly cheap about $179 but it does not offer the 5-year warranty.

It's either that or give up on the PCP and just buy a crosman 2240 pistol. What do you guys think? Let me know.

The Maximus is the better gun IMHO. You still need a $50+ TKO if you are not allowed to shoot airguns that go BANG!!! and at least a $70 filter for your pump. Plus a $50 scope and $12 mounts on the cheap.

I'd go for the Benjamin just for the 5 year warranty compared to a similar priced Chinese gun with only a 1 year warranty.

I'd also keep an eye on the classifieds for a B&M multishot breech for it you never know. I have couple converted to multishot and they're great! Still very good single shot but it is what it is budget wise.

You go co2 you won't be shooting 80+yards like with that Maximus thats for sure more like 25-30 yards.

I have a Maximus, 22 cal. It does have a small reservoir and as a consequence the poi varies as the pressure drops. Full it is low, then climbs to a steady point for a few more shots, then drops again as pressure drops. I got the hunter model I think, it has the threaded barrel attachment so it accepts a moderator (a very nice to have accessory). It is quite accurate out to 40-50 yards using JSB pellets. I was surprised, pleasantly, the scope that was included in the combo was quite serviceable. My son in law has a Beeman Chief, it is also quite accurate, also with JSB pellets. It is quite loud, and needs an adapter for a moderator, and has a similar shot curve. As we got used to the rifles and found favored pellets, the range grew and the targets shrunk, consistently hitting 1.5 inch targets on the self reset targets. The 2k fill pressure is very nice when using a hand pump.

I've owned the .22 Maximus for 3.5 yrs and it's been great. I had to replace the fill adapter last month but Crosman sent me one free of charge. Solved.

It is accurate and really hits hard with 14.3 CP domes/hollow points. Excellent rifle for hunting or target. The 2000 psi fill is easy on the gun's seals and the pump. I don't use a filter on the Benjamin pump but I'm in a dry climate.

Like YO said, it's loud w/o a moderator. I have a TKO 6.5" and it quiets the gun down to backyard friendly.

I recommend you save up and get the Max. It's much higher quality than you'd expect for the price.

I have a Maximus.177 that I bought for $150 brand new from Kittery Trading in Maine. I get 35-40 shots at 30 yards in a 1 inch group (the gun can but not always the shooter). But to do that I have replaced the transfer port, installed a power adjuster, hammer spring and marauder trigger. Plus a LDC to make it really quiet. I totaled the cost up the other day and I have about $340 + scope in the gun. A used scuba tank $80 and hydro $40. In retrospect a Benjamin Fortitude would have been a better starting point. The cost of the power adjuster and ldc would not have been necessary so for the same price it would have been shrouded and regulated. I was only looking for a backyard plinker so the gun is tuned to 10.5-11 fpe. It will put a 8.44 gr pellet about 1/4 deep into a pine 2x4 at 30 yds. Straight out of the box the shot curve wasn’t very good and the trigger was not very good but the gun was totally fine and fun to shoot. You could buy one and a pump for $200-225 have a ton of fun and build the gun as money allowed knowing it will be a solid and accurate gun.
