Benjamin Akela .22

Got my Akela in last week. I'll try to fit in a full shot string in stock config tomorrow on the .22 Akela. I have lots of orders waiting so this gun is pushed back a little. I did find a 2" piece of 1.25" aluminum round bar scrap which will allow me to modify a Lane reg to work. It will require drilling a vent hole so it's a permanent addition but it would make it regulated and with the new SSG could be spectacular. I've never been worried about the drilled breathe holes so it's a non issue in my book.

No one carries the Empire..... and Kral wont sell direct to me (I aksed :( ).. Biggest draw for me was the center mounted cocking mech.....

Be interested in what you think of the Akela.

Empire is just coming out of production. No one has them yet. We should see them in less than 6 months is my guess. I have a sample gun coming from Kral.

The Empire looks good.

The shroud seems a little on the small diameter side for doing any actual decrease in sound reduction.

Wonder of the cocking mechanism is swappable to the other side for a proper right handed shooter?

And last but not least, gotta be under about 29" for more proper bullpup length. The shorter the better.

Mike

P.s. - The Akela also looks good, but who in their right minds designs and builds a rear cocking lever Bullpup/semi-Bullpup in the 21 century ?

It's also way long to be a Bullpup, but it's rather a rear mounted receiver , or semi-bullpup.

From a full 3000psi fill the akela started out 940 peaked at 960 and back to 940 over the first 2 mags using 18.13JSB. By the end of the 3rd mag I was down to 850fps in a steady decline. Wanted to reduce preload so I bored the hammer to a ½" hole as far as I could and not cut the face where the sear engages then bored the hammer spring retainer ½" diameter and .200" deep. Now I'm at 70 shots with the 18.13 from 800-841fps. Shots 71 and 72 from the 6th mag really started to drop. At this power I'm only using 200 psi per mag. I'm sure there's a really good 30fpe tune in there as well. Here's the numbers after reducing preload and no other modifications.

Edit: The Hammer Spring Tensioner can still take the preload back to the factory numbers I started at.
