Begginners Section, HELP!!!

Hello guys, my name is Laramie and I've been poking around this forum for the past couple days and have decided to take the plunge and join. I have been shooting my roommates Gamo Buckmaster with a cheap center point scope and am absolutely addicted. However I am getting frustrated because this gun will shoot great groups for like 5 shots then the scope needs to be adjusted. I need advice on what would be a good Air Gun for someone trying to get into Air Guns! I am partial to the idea of a fixed barrel air gun however I am a newbie and don't know anything so, please help. Again I am a newbie, lol.

Sounds like the scope may be moving-either in the rings or on the gun. Make some pencil marks and observe to see if the scope or mounts are moving. Check to see that the stock screws are snug. I second the RWS 34, Beeman R9/Hw95 or HW30/Beeman R7. The Beeman and HW are the same guns but branded differently, usually the Beeman branded guns do not come with open sights. Bear in mind that the less powerful guns are easier to shoot accurately, with the R7/HW30 being the easiest and RWS 34 and R9 being a good balance between power and shootability. Undelevers are nice, but weigh about a pound more than a comparable breakbarrel as well as being more expensive. I myself favor a breakbarrel for hunting/pesting because I can reload faster in the event a follow up shot is needed. Hard to beat the special on the HW95 that AOA has going, $315 last time I looked.

I guess I would recommend the Maximus also. You can get 20-25% discount using the AGNATION code thru this forum. I have a number of springers and they can be harder to shoot. And you will have to be sure and get a springer rated scope, which can cost more. Crosman sells a discovery and Maximus package that is the rifle and pump and maybe even a scope?

As you try and decide what to buy, look at the scope threads on this forum. Which might let you know how each type, PCP & springer can be to scope?

I have RWS 34P & 48 in 22 cal. Love them both. Very accurate to at least 40 yds,. Read a lot about trigger control & follow through. JSB 15.9 work best in both for me. The 34 is most fun to shoot, trigger to6 is very good can be adjusted to around 2 lbs. I have Hatsan 95. It is a good gun but not up to a RWS in quality. Leapers, utg scope 3-9x40 ao works well.

"Deja"The lgu is smoother and way easier to shot than any hatsan spring rifle. Better build quality and much better internals. As close to pcp as you can get with a springer. Theres a few good youtube reviews on it. Not a mad powerhouse but youll hit what you aim at. A bit to heavy for my taste but you cant get it all.
What do you want to do with it and what's your budget? Since you're leaning toward .22, I'm guessing some pesting and small game hunting are in your future? .177 is big enough for up to squirrel and rabbit sized game, and shoots flatter. Bigger than rabbit, and you'll want .20 or .22.

Seems like you're looking in the $200-300 range.

I am seriously going to consider taking you up on that offer Smaug, well I mean I was going to get a Benjamin Titan to start off. However after seeing the reviews on it I have decided to save up some and get a better gun to start with so I am not fighting with improper equipment. I was thinking $500 absolutely max, with a good scope. Also I will be hunting up to Skunk sized pest. So was thinking def .22 however that .177 deal has my gears turning.

I was there last year starting airgun struggling what I should get.
Started with a cheap springer and now shooting 177 springers and 22 pcps.
I like the idea of springers not depending air source but the dark side (pcp) has drowned me bad. Still shooting springers though.
My only 2 cents here and you should not buy too many cheap guns and accessories because the accuracy dont come cheap and you will seek for more accuracy once started. Same for scopes and rings. Personally I like hawke scopes and bkl rings. Know your limit and get a decent airgun as others recommendations. Otherwise you will get piled up and lost quickly.
This hobby is so addictive.
Good luck.

I may get some negative responses from this post, but I am fairly new to the sport. Been into it for maybe 10 months so far. I have 3 break barrel rifles so far. I have under $400 in the rifles themselves total, and maybe $175-200 in 2 scopes, speed loaders.

The 3 rifles I have are great for pesting, and plinking. I have a Crosman NPS TR77 with Hammers 3x9x40AO scope that loves Crosman Ultra Magnum 10.5 Gr pellets, a Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk 22 with Hawke Low Scope Mounts, and Hammers 3x9x32AO scope (not installed yet) that loves Crosman Premier Hollow Points 14,3Gr pellets, and my first ever break barrel is my Ruger Blackhawk Elite 177 with stock scope, which loves Crosman Premier Hollow Points. I can shoot fairly tight groups with them all at my intended ranges of 15-40 yards. The Crosmans I reworked the triggers on, the Ruger is stock. If I was gonna spend $500 on something I would save up for a nice PCP or just put 500 down on the purchase and pay the rest on my credit card monthly. Alas, I am a cheapo and have many hobbies so I opted to try out cheap stuff and see if I enjoyed the sport, and sure enough I did. Yet I still like my cheapo rifles.Good luck in your endeavors, and glad to have ya here!

I loaned my buddy my Ruger and he wanted to buy it the next day.....I couldnt bring myself to let it go, so its sticking around. They all take love and work to make em accurate.
