Been said before, but I'll reiterate. FX pressure gauges can be wretched bad!

Chrony measurements indicated I was falling off the reg way early...at indicated 200-210 bar. I started comparing my main pressure gauge to one of my pretty reliable tanks and to fill pressures I was getting in other guns (like the Taipan Veteran.) Near as I can tell my FX main pressure gauge is low by 50 bar!

If that wasn't enough, the reg pressure gauge is obviously off too. I know this because at one point, when I thought I opened the reg way too much it indicated 200 bar. It isn't likely the reg can work in that range and unlikely the hammer and spring would open the valve much, if at all, at the pressure.

So for those of you who aren't getting as many shots per fill as you expect...or not reaching power levels you expect, confirm your gauges are accurate.

I ordered a pair of Huma gauges to replace the FX ones.

Hey Daniel, I'm not disagreeing with you at all just pointing out that I have had all 3 major brands (fx,huma wika) on my Impact and it seems all 3 of them were off. I wound up with 2 deferent gauges at one point a small original fx gauge on the bottle pressure and a wika on the reg... I now have 2 of the newer FX gauges that seem fairly accurate on it.

That might really explain the unimaginable headaches
that I've been going through with 2 brand new FX rifles the past few weeks..

This explanation/rant sort of sums things up:

At least you guys' gauge needles are moving when you adjust the reg-adjust-screws..
Not mine - at first anyways..
The only way I could see a change previously was to check the gauges at full pressure..
Then degas the gun - then refill and 'sometimes' the needle would move a little bit..
[But never in real time when adjusting - like they're supposed to]

**Shrug**

Sam -

pressure Gauge lottery is a good way to put it. It seems all makers struggle with this issue. I was going to replace the gauges on some of my rifles but after researching I didn't bother.

The choice of replacements I found as many complaints on them as the originals. I ended up making a hose with an accurate gauge (expensive and large) to fill with and put reference marks on the gun gauges.

If anyone makes gauges in good size for the guns and consistent accuracy in production it would be good to know who.

Good idea. If I had a really accurate reference gauge I might do the same. Would build a fixture to mount the reference gauge in parallel with the OEM gauges and then afix calibration stickers to them with the deltas.

Anyone know of a reliable reference gauge? Would a digital gauge be the way to go? They have the advantage of being calibratible at the factory eliminating much of the accuracy issues.

This one, for $105 claims .5% full scale accuracy. That would be 25 psi. Way better than any of my gauges.
