Beeman P1 .177 and metallic targets: satisfaction

There's something that just feels right about this kind of shooting. Start with an iconic, well made springer air pistol that requires discipline and technique to fully appreciate its accuracy potential. Next set out some 1/10th scaled down NRA big bore metallic silhoettes or a resettable target, and shoot away. I shoot lots of targets but reactive metal targets are must haves with the mighty P1🤓.

Here's my P1 .177 "Plinkomatic". She spits out the AA 7.87 gn pellets at around 550 fps. Actually she shoots lots of pellets accurately, but for the video below I used the AA Express.

Here's a close look at one of four of the metal center mass targets that comprise the Sig Sauer Quad Resettable target. The 4 silhouette center mass targets are 1 5/8" wide x 2 5/8" high and the Sig reset target in the middle is 1-1/2" diameter.

You totally just got me to get a target like that, honestly don’t know why I haven’t realized how fun they could be after spending many dollars on shoot and see targets, which I still will continue to buy. But for my lower speed pistols and resets it’s self. I’ve watched many many videos with Nate, Airgun Channel use them but you’re video made it click for me,I guess I’m not a wizard of the obvious lol. Thanks man for the video and awesome shooting by the way, that’s not as easy to accomplish with a pistol as some may think.👍

I have a Webley Hurricane and I totally understood what you meant when you said "a well made springer air pistol that requires discipline and technique to fully appreciate its accuracy potential". You're exactly right and it appears you have that discipline and technique down pat! I love the P1. Those grips are awesome too. I had one of the earlier models back in the 80's. I'm sorry I sold it. :(

Thanks guys, I've only recently stumbled across the world of P1s/HW45s. Really enjoy the challenge of shooting them, and while they are able to print nice groups on paper this is one pistol that offers enough power to knock down resettables or metallic silhoettes with authority. Silhoettes fall as well with my P3 but man the impact sound is diminutive compared to the P1. 

Havefunwithair2: Which resettable target did you end up getting? Looks like I am guilty yet again of enabling a fellow airgunner, LOL. I plan on using this Sig Sauer Quad resettable strictly for my Weihrauch springer pistols, and at a bare minimum of 10-11 yards. 

Biohazardman: Thanks, this morning I touched up the paint on a repurposed Gamo resettable squirrel target- basically its the two kill zones paddles only minus the squirrel frame. Attached to a tree on an inclined slope. I like to shoot this at an average of 18 yards-20 yards for a challenging plink.

Fuciliere: You bet, they are lots of fun. If I keep grip pressure uniform from shot to shot it'll knock 'em down💥😉

Cheers Steveoo, I really like my Burris Fast Fire III red dot reflex sights but the scope does offer a bit more precision. I initially had a BSA Edge 2x20 pistol scope but that was junk so it got replaced with a Bushnell Trophy 2-6x32. Bigger and heavier than the BSA, but it did reduce a bit of the muzzle flip. No free lunch though, the extra weight (fwd bias) is felt on the long shooting sessions.

Set up below. The thick rubber bands on the scope serve to absorb vibration to 'cushion' the optic's internals so to speak.

Agreeing with you regarding additional muzzle weight killing the flip. That is why i went with the solid steel guide at the muzzle. It worked to some extent but your big scope doing the job even better. I have known some shooters fixing additional scope mounts to the front of their scopes but this only works with the type which do not have an ocular bell but are parallel. I would not alter your set up regardless as it seems to be working very well.

I used a Canis Latrans Red Dot on the LP53K. There is a video of its indestructible quality and the anodised matt black matched the LP53 finish but most importantly it has a tiny 2 M.O.A dot which appears about the size of a rats eye ball at 8 -10 paces, offering much greater precision than other models.

I like the idea of a 2 MOA dot. Even better would be a 2 MOA dot w/ variable intensity. I'll have a Japan made Ultradot Matchdot Four (2,4,6,8 MOA with adjustable intensity) and will be keen to try it out to compare with the Burris FF3 3 MOA. The Burris has 4 settings, and on the lowest setting the dot has less surrounding glare which makes it seem like an even smaller aim point.

No metallic targets this time but I wanted to share these 2 groups shot at 13 yards.

The larger dot was shot standing, unsupported at 2X magnification. Shot #4 strayed from the main group and slipped high because of a badly timed trigger pull and went straight into the POA (hate it when that happens😆). Shot #6 joined the pack, all is well.

For the smaller dot I sat on a bumbag with knees in front of me with elbows supported on knees.

A video from a couple days ago got unexpectedly cut short. P1 Magnum .177 scoped, 15 yards standing, using RWS Basics, holding on bottom left edge of the metal resettable. Shot 3 connected at the same time the gust took down my phone 🤦🏻‍♂️😂.

In retrospect, JSB RS 7.3 gn pellets would have been the better pellet in the wind, but the RWS Basics were within arm's reach.
