Congrats!

I always wanted a Kodiak. I think .25 in a magnum springer is perfect. They kind of shoot like a detuned .22 cal. The heavier pellets seem to slow the shot cycle a bit.

Not a lot of pellets to pick from. My 52 in .25 shoots 25.4 gr at 660 and FTT’s around 710.

Out to 45yds or so this gun the perfect pesting gun. I find .25 to be far superior to my old .22 48. The 48 was plenty accurate but the .25 just thumps the squirrels. It might only be 3-4 ft/lbs over the .22 but it just seems to hit so much harder.

Can’t wait to hear what you think of it.

Vortek Products has a few of the gas rams for these. I just installed one in a costumers Beeman Kodiak rifle. It was a total transformation on power feel and shot cycle. Prior to install 25.4 Jsbs were shooting at 640 fps the shot cycle was harsh and very twangy. Once the gas ram was installed the 25.4’s shot at 718 fps that’s a little over 29 ft/lbs. The shot cycle was just a solid clap no vibration . Now this is a magnum springer and I was able to get some decent groups at 25 yards of hand. Or what I call good for what I was shooting. This thing utilizes a cannon hold rather than the normal artillery hold.

Good luck with it.

I also just got a .25 cal Kodiak also made in England. Mine was used but was also professionally tuned when the previous owner had it. Its such a sweet shooter. I haven't had the chance to shoot it past 10m yet but I'm getting very good accuracy. I hope that holds up at 25m and beyond. The workmanship on the rifle is beautiful. I'm not one to care about aesthetics of a rifle but this one is definitely the nicest looking rifle I have.

Of course, I need more range time with my rifle but yesterday I already started trying to shoot off-hand and surprisingly got a good 10 shot group at 10m. I say surprisingly because I have very little practice with off-hand shooting. I don't find my rifle to be very hold sensitive. Also, I'm shooting open sights since I don't have a scope mount for it yet. I've been chrony testing it but I don't have my figures with me. However, I believe I was getting about 800fps with 20gr H&N FTT pellets. Most of the 25 - 30 gr pellets were in the 650 - 750 fps range. This rifle is definitely for hunting.

I haven't opened up the rifle to see if it has a spring or gas piston in it. However, it cocks and shoots so smoothly. There's no buzz at all but it has been tuned. I'm curious to see what's in there.

One thing I have to add is that most pellets seemed to fit a wee bit loosely in the breech. I don't know if I'm just used to overly tight breeches or if the rifle's bore is a bit big. I'll eventually see how the accuracy is when I get a chance to shoot at longer range.

A .25 cal pellet has 23% more frontal cross-section than a .22 pellet. That means given the same energy at impact the .25 pellet has to move 23% more tissue and bone out of the way to pass through. With airguns you can pretty much ignore cavitation cavities because you are not imparting enough secondary velocity to the tissue and bone to cause that "explosion". Also the pellets do not have the rotational energy that a bullet does simply because they never had the initial velocity that a bullet has ...

That is a fancy way of saying that a .25 pellet hits with a hell of a lot more authority than a .177 or even a .22 given the same impact energy (not velocity, energy). This thread prompted me to go drop the change on a BSA GRT XL in .25. I had one of those years ago. Gave it to my son. Want one again. 😉

Might just want to bust a couple of squirrels this winter in the deep woods.

I just mounted a scope on mine yesterday. Looks like it has some serious barrel droop. I think I bottomed out the vertical adjust.

I'm pretty sure I'll have to shim this mount since there isn't likely to be any mounts with built in droop compensation for these rifles.

However, if anyone wants to prove me wrong by pointing out such a mount, please feel free.

I can't say much about accuracy yet since I clearly need to find a pellet that does well in my rifle. So far H&N FTTs are the best.

I also just plain need to get used to shooting this rifle. My D56 spoils me with its lack of felt recoil.

Who knows? I may eventually go with a peep sight.

Depending on the amount of droop, you will probably still need to shim since it’s not compensated on the mount. I’m not sure that I’ve ever shimed with that powerful of a springer. I would use what I call aluminum tape. Looks like this, has a peel off backing.

Build it up carefully. So the tube isn’t bent. It gives a bit when you crank down the screws

I demonstrated with masking tape, easier to remove. I’m sure there are some engineers out there who have better methods.

You will likely have to remove all the screws from the mount, put them in the opposite side to open up the clamps to mount.

You can also bend the barrel. Not for the timid. The easiest way, is a hole in a 4 x 6, that’s mounted solidly somewhere. Put the barrel into the hole and pull down on the barrel block. NOT the action. You have to pull pretty hard. I would go in stages. In other words, pull a bit, shoot it to check point of impact. You get a feel for it after a while. There are also barrel benders you can buy. I don’t have one.

I have to admit that I'm tempted to do a bit of barrel bending.

I didn't think of using aluminum tape as a scope shim though. I have a roll of that stuff leftover from a house project. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

I've been impressed with the accuracy out to 50yrds. I don't have enough open space in my back yard to shoot further because of the trees and thicket. So, a sub-50 yard thumper suits me well as I have the occasional groundhog to contend with.

I put another peep sight on order and may use it on my Kodiak. This is what I I ordered: https://williamsgunsight.com/product/williams-wgrs-54/
