Beautiful Owl

Man! That’s pretty cool indeed. Haven’t seen a big owl like that in the wild. Used to see the little ones in S FL that burrow in the ground. 

That's awesome. 

My son and I take an occasional walk to the tree line as the sun sets. We've been hearing Owls for years but they seem to be getting closer recently as I reforest my property. We haven't found it/them yet. 

That is a beautiful owl! I love birds like that. I had a juvenile bald eagle land about 30yds away from me when I was shooting ground squirrels. It was like he was waiting for me to shoot them for him lol

Not great resolution, but here’s my entry. I see these GA Red-tail Hawks taking chipmunks and squirrels all the time around my house. This one actually has a chipper in his talons, just can’t be seen on pic.

Owls are SO cool!

I once saved one from a murder of crows that attacked him when I inadvertantly spooked him into flight while hunting with an 11 foot-pound .177 BSA springer. As the crows attacked, I followed and started pluggin' 'em as fast as I could. The owl would fly a hundred yards with crows in pursuit before landing again; whereupon I'd follow, counter-attacking the crows. They finally abandoned the attack after I'd dropped six. This story appeared in greater detail in an American Airgunner magazine at the time (early 1980's). 

Another time (in the 1970s) while varmint calling at night I had a huge owl swoop in behind me, only aborting the dive so close I felt wind from his wings on the back of my neck! Better wind from his wings, than talons in the back of my neck!

its a young great grey owls...after its first full season the front chest will be gray...they are a large owl

he was waiting for you to shoot his lunch  shot a starling once and a sharp shin hawk snagged it up as soon as it fell off the feeder and hit the snow

Great pixs and story. It's always those pesky little birds ganging up on birds of prey. 

Think it's an adult Barred owl. We have them on my backyard range once in a while. Have a pair of Bald Eagles on the lake that fly over or near the house all the time. Had as high as 6 Bald Eagles eating the ground squirrels a I shot. MMMM hot lunch special. Have had all kinds of meat eaters come in while shooting to steal a meal.

Yes that is a barred owl. I had one swoop in after a tree rat termination. It watched and watched and watched, and we watched and waited, but it was too shy to feed. It could see us through the window from just 20 feet away and I guess it did not feel safe.

Yup barred owl, awesome pics Glem. I think the owl bolted because that chickadees alerted all the animals around that he was there.

We have great horned owls here and it is always a pleasure to see them.
