Beautiful hunting grounds, very little game

There's a couple spots that look promising, based on others' success statistics. All the area of the state north of Salmon was one spot and the lower East side of the state was another. That southeast area is more populated with people (more hunters in the area) and that may be why the statistics are higher though. One of my bow hunting trips is going to be to do a DIY cougar hunt, tracking then calling them into bow range! You probably have family that use dogs on them in Idaho? I have a .452 Slayer on the way for a dedicated big bore hunting and long range target rig.

Her father and uncles used to hunt with dogs, now they'll just bring they're family dogs to alert them to predators during elk and deer seasons. They go out for 2-3 weeks at a time deep in the high country, I came CLOSE to being able to make it out there to hunt with them on a couple of seasons, but I'm not retired and haven't been able to align that much time off 😢

Very nice on the .452 Slayer btw! That'll get'r done, no doubt lol. I truly regret not putting in my order for one last December :(

Those are great pics! I just purchased my elk tag for Idaho this year, looking to take my first elk with a big bore(probably going to use an extreme big bore in .457), and I’ve been pretty concerned about the bears and wolves. I’ve spoken to the biologist in the area I’m hunting, she assured me that they’re more afraid of me than I am of them etc etc, but that doesn’t keep me sleep 5 miles into the wilderness. Any tips or pointers? I plan on bringing bear spray, and possibly a .44 snub nose just in case.

Beautiful area. Nice photos.

You haul a compressor with you? Do you shoot a ton or only have a couple air tanks?

I don't normally bring a compressor, but I went out for an extended period of time and figured my great white wouldn't last too long. I'm looking at a getting a much larger air cylinder soon though (and/or possibly a booster pump unit).

Since I have my own compressor, I can use aged out CF fireman tanks. I keep half a dozen on hand and usually bring a few for longer trips.
