BCSA May 7th, 2022 Match Report

The 2022 Season has kicked off at Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) in Binghamton NY! As is typical with our area, Match day forecast was for a windy, wet, cold Fall like day and Mother Nature didn’t disappoint!

Our Match was set up early Friday morning as to try and beat the heavy rain that was forecast for later in the afternoon. My wife and I along with local plinkers Bill Campbell and Louis Hopewell donned our wet weather gear and set the match under drizzly to light to moderate rain in hope competitors would come and join us the following day!

When we awoke on Match day morning and checked the latest forecast, the rain line had been pushed about 20 miles or so south of us and we were forecast to stay dry!!!

As our usual match day agenda, my wife and I arrived at the range around 6:15 am to start pulling strings and put the final touches on the field target range. After finishing the strings, we headed over to set the sight-in range. Just as we started, Brian Van Liew arrived and jumped in to help. In no time, we were set for the day!

We had 12 competitors for the day, including Bill Day who made the 400 mile trip to our range. Pretty sure there were others that had thoughts of coming, but may have been hesitant due to the ever fluctuating forecast!!

The course of fire was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. The stats for the days 60 shot course are as follows:

The temperature for the rifle match ranged from around 47 to 53 degrees. Along with the lower temps, the wind was constant with speeds from around 8 to 13 mph with a couple of gusts near 20 mph. I’d put the difficulty closer to the 41 figure:

Had a couple of cold lines due to the string getting caught up on the Egrets foot and another Gamo target where the string got caught under a protruding bolt. Nothing too serious, but annoying none the less!

Brian Van Liew took Match high honors for the day with a 52 in Open PCP with the next closest competitor, Bill Day who posted a 40 in Hunter PCP.

After the conclusion of the rifle match, just before resetting for the pistol match, we held a drawing for a Pyramyd Air Gift card! Pyramyd Air has graciously provided $300 worth of gift certificates to use for prizes!!! Pyramyd has also provided our club targets to be used at our matches! For the drawing, we put 7 tickets in a bucket (4 -$25, 2 - $50 and 1- $100) and drew 1. We will draw 1 each match until all are awarded. Today’s draw was for $25. Each competitor was given 1 ticket and after mixing up the tickets in the bucket and having Janet Manktelow reach in and pick one, Louis Hopewell came out the victor! Congrats!! We want to thank Pyramyd Air for their generosity and support and hope that you be sure to visit them for all your airgun needs! https://www.pyramydair.com/

After the drawing, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets. Awesome and quick when everybody jumps in! Thank You!

After a short break 8 of us took to the lanes for the pistol/low powered non magnified match! Doug Rogers was our only non-magnified rifle shooter this time around while Nathan Thomas and Nic Gregoris took the second match as a great time to practice their standing shots! The remainder of us all shot Hunter Pistol.!

The course of fire was 10 lanes with 2 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, right. There were 2 standing lanes and the stats for the days 40 shot course are as follows:

After the conclusion of the match, everyone remaining jumped in and made super quick work of the cleanup as usual! As always, all the help is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks to all that came out and braved the ever changing forecast!!! Hopefully next months match forecast will stay consistent and that a nice day with lots of competitors will be the outcome!
