Barrel support within the Benjamin Marauder and the Hill Barrel Band

I'm getting ready to order a Benjamin Marauder with the LW Barrel. I also notice that the Hill Barrel Brace seems popular here in the Air Gun Nation.

My question is "What, if any, supports the barrel within the Shroud?? Is the barrel free-floating?? If so, what does the brace support, beside the shroud??

Thanks for the time on this question...

Larry

Marauder barrels aren't free floating due to the air stripper up front having contact with the shroud.

Only way to make it free floating is remove the shroud completely or take that air stripper off which guides the shrouded front end and hope the inner free floating barrel doesn't move around if shroud leaned against something or bumped or dropped.

I would shoot it stock for now and keep the 5 year warranty intact.

Make sure you use the AGNATION discount code and order it from Crosman on a Fri to get free shipping. Also it is not uncommon to have to break the shroud loose and back it off slightly to get best accuracy. JMO. I have a newer model (1.5 years old) and it shoots boringly accurate so you may want to ask some of the guys with newer Crosmans if they feel the LW barrel is actually worth the money or maybe use that money for something else. I am only offering possibilities to consider but make sure you check out the discount which is 25% and brings the price down considerably.

Hi, Larry,

What centers the barrel in the shroud is a plastic thimble/air stripper that also has an o-ring around the outer edge which contacts the shroud. It fits snugly over the end of the barrel and stays on when the shroud is removed. I lubed mine with dive grease, not sure if it made any difference or not, but mine is very accurate. I got an aluminum band to center mine in the barrel band, but I believe a big O-ring would work too.

The Marauders with the LW barrels are only available through the Crosman’s Custom Shop and unfortunately the AGNATION discount doesn’t apply to custom shop orders.

Actually that is no longer true, Crosman usually stocks LW barreled Marauders outside their custom shop and accepts the Agnation discount on them. Currently they just have them in .177s. https://www.crosman.com/marauder-177-with-lothar-walther-barrel-wood

Well that’s interesting and good to know. Looks like they hide them however, because I can’t find them by browsing through the rifles. I can only find them with a search for the specific model number. Looks like the .22 cal LW models are not in stock. The .177 LW models are in stock with both the wood and synthetic stocks.
