Barrel Band

Does anyone know where to get this barrel band. This pic came from Rocky Mountain bench rest. I cannot find this band anywhere.

A 20” tube moves 0.001” from 1000psi to 3000psi.

Dr. Bob in England has similar bottle to barrel bands. I suspect more are home machined & 3D printed now.

If you’re gun/barrel mating system is worth a hoot and you’re not going over say mid range power level with a 16mm barrel I wouldn’t worry about a band unless you want it “just in case” of a bad bump or fall.

Harmonically I’d rather have a rock solid 0.750” to 1.25” Thomas, MAC 1, custom competition rig type set up free floated.

I’m sorry I can’t tell you about that exact bottle. I do know my Wife knows how to find anything on the internet if she has a picture of it. It’s very accurate but I don’t know how, what phone, or if it will work being attached to that gun. Sorry I couldn’t help more.

If that bottom extended picc rail doesn’t have any flex utilizing it isn’t a bad idea as suggested.

That would be an easy 3D print. I wouldn't get the barrel tight If I was going to make one. I would leave a 1/16 around the barrel. It would protect it during a fall or a catch without compromising the harmonics of a floating barrel. If you want one, I can pull something like it. I need the Tank and shroud diameters and the measurement of the space between the two.

I have a Crown. It is a super air rifle, but it does have a flaw. The barrel and shroud is supported poorly at the breech end only and it does move around a little bit every time I take it out of the case, I have to re-zero the gun again. This band does make sense. The problem is that the bottles are all a different size, so every rifle will be different. That's the first thing. The second thing is the space between the OD of the bottle and the OD of the shroud. is quite small. On my crown it is about .060" and that space varies depending on where you measure the gap. So buying one as a production part does not make sense. I think this concept will work, but I also think they must be custom made for the intended rifle and 2 clamping screws will be required. One for the barrel and one for the shroud. I will make one. I'm just not sure how or of what material yet. I don't think the tolerance in internal diameter is critical of the two holes, but the spacing between the two holes should be within .001" to .002".

Just a note: It appears barrel bands are available from Ohio air guns. contact below:

Here is a follow up to my last reply. I went to order one from Ohio Air guns and although their web site allows addresses outside the US, the site sent the message that it was unable to calculate the shipping cost. I sent my first message through the site contact form and received no answer. I sent a second message yesterday and received the reply "Sorry I don’t sell out of USA " So, I used a friend's address and made the purchase. Now I wait. I do not expect this to fit exactly, but I hope it can be massaged.

I finally did receive the barrel band and it does work perfectly. I highly recommend this band. It definitely prevents my session to session POI shift.

Sounds like the "air tube/tanks expand and twist" noted above and hurting consistency didn't occur for you? I've heard people claim both but haven't done enough research to know which is true. Might be true for one gun and not for another. I've recently added barrel bands to 2 Diana Stormriders (actually one an original Varmint) due to their very thin and flexible barrels so it is a concept of interest.

I never heard of an air tank twisting. I cannot imagine that happening, but I certainly do not know everything. Tanks expanding under pressure sure, that's normal, but the diameter difference between tank low of say 100 bar and tank high of 250 bar would be negligible and well within the stretch ability of the band without causing permanent deformation (yield). In my case, the band has a tight slip fit over the shroud. Fitting the band and tightening over the bottle did NOT change the POI. The fit was perfect with no subsequent bind on the shroud. This BS about changing barrel harmonics is an old wives tale. Cannot happen. The actual barrel is suspended by O" rings between the barrel mount in the receiver and the air stripper "O" ring to the shroud and that relationship has not changed with the band. What the band has successfully accomplished is the POI shift caused by handling and transportation. That problem is a design issue and has since caused a design change in all the new guns at the FX factory.
