Barra 2-15 scope (wow)

I picked up a Barra 2nd FP 3-15x50 mm scope with 6 mil dot reticle. Quality is excellent and Everything you've heard about the glass is true...it’s stunningly good for the money and would compare favorably with expensive scopes for a fraction of the price optically .
i Haven’t tested the turrets yet ... but if they aren’t repeatable ( and I bet they are) I’ll just dope with mildots and call I good. They don’t click as distinctly as some of my other scopes... but they’re not bad.and cost way under half.

Thanks Odoyle for the tip! I’m extremely pleased.

They are repeatable turrets. Remove your turret caps and clean off the thick factory grease on the backside of the turret caps using q-tips and alcohol. I would also gently wipe the turret and remove any factory grease there as well. Take some oil that is safe for rubber so you don’t damage any o-rings in the scope (I use Frog Lube) and lightly coat the underside on the top of the turret caps where the factory grease was. This will greatly improve the feel as well as the sound and won’t cost you anything to do. Below is my Barra H50 with the elevation turret already done and the windage turret like it came from the factory. Turn up your volume so you can hear the difference between the two. The turret feeling is also greatly enhanced and will remove almost all the mush between clicks.

Mr. Ball, I'm seeking some advice ..

My Barra H50 is great except the parallax adjustment is out by about 8 yards. i.e. To remove the parallax at 25 yards, the knob reads about 33 yards.

Do you know of any way to correct this?

Thx!

Mr. Ball? Well there are two of us already in this thread, qball and Cannonball. I don’t know which one of us you wanted a reply from but I can help you out. The parallax can be adjusted but you would have to remove the ring on the bell end of the scope to get to the lens carrier ring and move it in or out to adjust the parallax. You have to be extremely careful doing this and not break the o-ring seal behind it. This would remove the factory purge, usually nitrogen and your scope would easily fog which isn’t good. A much better and easier solution is to have someone here that does 3D printing make you a side wheel that you can put a label on and mark it to where it’s perfectly set. The side wheel will also be much easier to turn as it’s quite a bit larger and easier to use in my opinion. There is someone on here that makes those, I can’t remember who it is but I’m sure someone else will know who I am referring to. I think Odoyle knows the person I am thinking of and will probably chime in shortly. By the way, if you were talking to me, my friends call me Eddie and you are welcome to do that as well. 🙂

I certain do not have the balls to do fix side focus knob! The side focus wheels cannonball suggested is the only way to go. PM Elis5173 here, in fact I literally just asked him to make some focus wheel for the Barra so if you also PM him that might get him moving a bit quicker. Ask for the wheel to be a bit wider so you can put yardage markers on it.

Another "problem" with the Barra scope is that the eye piece is so large and the reticle is rather large/thick so you might not have your reticle even focused correctly but still appears focused. Also the barra scopes have good depth of field so that makes getting parallax correct harder actually because both the object and the reticle could appear to be sharp especially at lower magnification your parallax still could be off and without a good cheek weld you still could miss. All the attributes that makes precision shooting a bit harder are all most likely by design because it's hunting scope for center fire so slight parallax error is not a big deal but huge field of view and large depth of field are key features for hunting scope for target acquisition and quick shot. Just put the scope at 10x and compare to other scopes at 10 looking at the same object, the barra will surprise you most of the time.

Not certain if you know how to focus the eye piece here is a quick run down:

1. put your parallax to infinity

2. point it to open sky but not the sun, cloud is ok

3. open both your eyes and stare at the cloud/sky or a mountain far away at 15 seconds

4. look into the eye piece to see if the reticle is immediately clear without squinting or your eyes completely relaxed. VERY IMPORTANT: do not look at the reticle for more than 2-3 seconds!

5. adjust 1/8 of a turn while looking at the distance for 15 seconds and repeat the process till the reticle is 100 sharp as soon as you put your eye to the eye piece

6. Adjust parallax to say 20 yards then put your eye to the eye piece and see if BOTH the reticle and the object is IMMEDIATELY clear

7. If both the object and reticle are clear then move your eye back an inch or so until the black ring is clearly visible and precede to move your eye up and down then left and right. If the parallax is correct then the reticle will not move and depends on the scope the adjustment is tiny!

8. repeat the parallax validation for as many yardage markers as you want

In contrast my Crimson Trace scope that are made for precision long distance target shooting so the eye alignment is MUCH harder and the eye box is much tighter. Cheek weld, scope height, eye relief, eye piece focus all have to 100% perfect or things won't look right but that's also by design so the parallax error can be eliminated. I know some people complain about tight eye box but IMHO the good scopes with tight eye box are that way by design, forgiving eye box is also a design feature but you do give up a little bit precision, everything is a compromise. BUT if you have prefect cheek weld because you are like matt dubber who has the same GSR adjustable stock on every gun then parallax is a non-issue.

BTW Barra FT/H50 is made in the same factory(japan optics) as many other Tier 1 scopes including my Crimson Trace.

The Barra does not have a Lifetime Warranty no matter what you read. They may swap you if it needs warranty only if they still have any left. Once they are all gone it's 2B4U.

The Alpha6s have a NO BS LIFETIME WARRANTY from a company who really cares about their customers. It beats most $1199.00 and under Chinese made scopes in glass and eyebox friendliness at all magnifications regardless of how cheap the A6's are.

It also has a daytime bright illuminated reticle that's more real world useable.

The Barra is slightly clearer than the Alpha6 and has better turrets. Essentially a Japan made scope with no Warranty support sold for really cheap now. If you're an SWFA SS fan both the Barra and A6 have nicer glass and superior eyebox.

It is also clearer than the $1499 Element Nexus.

The Alpha6 has a superior very friendly eyebox and appears brighter when doing side by side during the daytime.

The Barra is built like a tank. The finish on the scope perfectly matches the finish on my Taipan Veteran. They have a 2-10X44 on Ebay for $150 and free shipping. That’s an absolute steal for that scope. I like more magnification than that or I would have bought several of those. I’m still thinking about buying one but will probably spend the extra $75 to get the 3-15X50.

Not sure if the guy who is offering free shipping will go much lower, but I'd bet the one selling for $150 plus $11.75 shipping will say yes to an offer of $110.

He offered me 5% when I just put that scope in my basket. I think it was late first day or second day. So there is "some" room at least. It just lacks enough magnification for me. As mentioned above the weight is also excessive for a 2x10. I also heard somewhere that Barra was actually going out of business to some extent. They said good scope but the company failed to market it properly. It appears they stopped production on the higher magnification scope everyone loved and are liquidating inventory on the last lower maginfication models. It is dificult to tell how many of the Barra scopes listed are just dealer postings that would be drop shipped from manufacuterer and are not really stock. I see some postings elswhere of buyers not getting any response for customer service for repairs.

Going? No, they are already out, that's why buyers aren't getting and customer service. The sellers on Ebay bought up all their inventory over a year ago. I use mine on a tree stand gun.
