Barn hunting pest

"bigplow"Will a crossman 2240 pistol be anuff for coons at short distances or not I have better just curious I do want to hop it up eventually and put a reflex and moderator on it for close squriells
I have one of those. Might be a bit light for that work unless you are using it to dispatch them and they are in a trap or something similar. That is only about a 4 or so fpe pistol AND in cold weather it won't shoot as hard because the CO2 guns work best in warm weather.

Please don't use a low power CO2 pistol for hunting. Chances are you'll just injure the animal resulting in unnecessary suffering. These things shoot at around 9 ft/lbs from the MUZZLE! At 20 yards the kinetic energy is almost half that. Racoons are pretty tough animals, if you're going to hunt them, use something more powerful for heaven's sake!

that's why I asked here first I didn't know what the power was on this pistol I do really want to use the p rod I might even add some power to it when I can afford to do so coon season is coming up and I will be trapping out in the woods at a friends so I know how that works

I have killed a number of coons with my 18fpe Prod with polymags has been great for head shots, but I have limited shooting to about 15 yards max. I had coons trying to get into the chicken coop and at the time my Prod was the best night time option. I have since built a .25cal pistol shooting 24fpe with kings and it is much better suited for short range raccoon problems.

"ajshoots" I have since built a .25cal pistol.
I am curious as to what you built?

I took an Airmax .22 pistol and rebarreled it to .25 using a left over .25 Marauder barrel I cut down and machined to fit the Airmax breech. Went completely thru the gun replacing all the orings and polishing along the way. I restacked the regulator washers to basically by pass and make the gun unregulated. From a 2500psi fill I get 10 shots at 650fps with JSB kings.

"oldspook"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raccoon 20 pounds.

There was one domesticated that did grow to 75 pounds (world record) but that is what happens when people over feed their pets and said pets have a thyroid problem.
OK, so Wikipedia says 20 lbs. max and the record is 75 lbs. Doesn't it stand to reason then, that a well-fed suburban racoon who has been eating human garbage could be 40 lbs.? Or maybe that 20 lbs. is a typical mature wild adult size, rather than a maximum?

If you had given it some thought or done more than a 5 second Google search before using that as a reason to give me negative accuracy, it would have been nice.

Wikipedia is not the be-all, end-all source of knowledge.

Here's the Washington DNR's site that says they get up to 40 lbs. Beginning of the 3rd paragraph:
http://wdfw.wa.gov/living/raccoons.html

Here's another reference (from the city of Palo Alto, CA) that says 35 lbs. but that the record was 50 lbs.

Here's an encyclopedia entry that says up to 35 lbs.:

You are absolutely right, Wikipedia is just another source of knowledge, kind of like you except they have some authority.

When you shoot your first 40 lb racoon, take a picture and post it here. Meanwhile... back to Reality Ranch.

Jeremy you are wearing me out here. Every time someone gives you neg accuracy you get butt hurt and whine about it publicly. Just live with it. Stop whining, neither you nor I are the be all or end all authority to all things air gunnery. Give neg accuracy back. I won't get all butt hurt and whine about it publicly.

"Smaug"Re. "Reality Ranch" Did you even bother to look at the links I've posted?

Yes, I'm upset when someone gives me a negative, especially when it's the same guy every time, (you) and especially when it is unwarranted, as I've proved above.

Jeeze... How do you reply to this?

:( I'm sorry Jeremy. Feel free to have your own opinion, just as I do. :(

You have 4 negs... apparently it isn't the same guy every time.
