Ballistics App for FT?

I could try using a laptop. I have a newish PC running whatever is the latest windows.

On Apple, I already have the paid version of BallisticArc for my powder burners. IDK if it might be possible to make it work if I can manually enter the projectile data. But I need length, ballistics coefficient, drag model, and metro information for the JSB exact 8.44 gr and JSB exact monsters. Any idea where I can find that data?

I found some ballistics coefficients online. The 8.44s are reported to have 0.027 and the monsters have 0.035.

If I can’t get BallisticArc to work for pellets, I noticed there are some online ballistics calculators I could access from my iPhone (my friend has an android, but I do not). Any experience using those? Pellet Path says it does not even need a ballistics coefficient. I guess it starts you out with a default value and then adjusts it based on your input results.

Chairgun was owned and supported by HAWKE scopes. Two months ago they said they were supporting it anymore (you get it from the Hawke website). There is another program (STRELOK I think) from Europe I think people are using. Ballistic calculators for most airgun needs are free on the AA website. The best thing for HFT is just shoot at every range and mark your wheels. For the other classes, I am clueless..

Hi Jennifer,

I prefer the iPhone ChairGun app.

Plug in approximate values for BC and scope height. What you found will work.

Set your guns zero at 25-30y and shoot a 55y target and a 10y target. Note the clicks or holdover.

Now, compare those to what ChairGun shows.

You want to juggle the numbers on scope height and BC so ChairGun outputs matching info for your 10 and 55.

You will adjust BC values to move the 55y numbers, and adjust scope height to move the 10y. Raising BC will lower the clicks or holdover at 55, and raising scope height will raise clicks or holdover at 10y.

Once you get 10 and 55 to match up with the info you obtained by shooting, the rest of my he numbers in between will work out.

There is no reason to shoot every yardage...although there are those that mistrust science and technology that will insist you must. If you follow these instructions...you will have numbers or holdovers that will work very well in a very short period of time. I generated my click chart for the last Nats event I attended in the sight in period before the match. You can always double check a few of the generated clicks, but they will be correct.

I have Shooter, Chairgun, and Strelok on my Android . Shooter is my favorite by far. It is easy to adjust and generates nice charts. I have more than 40 rifles in it. Not sure how many is the max but Chairgun and Stelok are more limited . Mikes description of the setup is accurate. I've done the same... put info in and generated a chart, tested a few ranges, made adjustments, proved them with a couple more shots and called it good.

I used StrelockPro on my iPhone for the first time yesterday. I have an Aztec Emerald 5-25 x 50 on an FX Wildcat and StrelockPro has that scope retical in the software. In the Field target match yesterday it was so convenient to range with the scope, type in my yardage and then see a picture of the retical with the correct holdover. I shot in Hunter PCP class so I couldn’t use a range finder to verify my scope ranging. However the gentleman I shot with was shooting the Open PCP class and could use a range finder. If the range was right, the retical in StrelockPro was spot on. After we would shoot we would compare our ranges to the targets. I shoot JSB 13.4 Monster Redesigns and I found a BC of .02 worked best at over 30 yds. My biggest hurdle was seeing the retical in the scope agains dark targets. I’m not real happy with the scope and it was highly recommended. Beyond 40 yds it was difficult to range accurately compared to the ranges I compared with my shooting partner.

As for not using the app, wouldn’t that fail to take into account humidity, air pressure, elevation, and whatever else affects wind resistance? With BallisticArc, you just update the weather info and since it knows your location? It knows your elevation. Then it determines your chart for that place in those conditions. Does chairgun not also do that?

I have Strelok, Shooter and Chairgun Pro on my phone and use Shooter most often with powder burners and Chairgun Pro most often for air guns. I also heard that Hawke isn't supporting it's operation anymore but I have it on my computer and on my I Phone and haven't had any problems using it at all. Works great.

Another option that nobody has mentioned is the ballistic app on Scope Werks website. It is a pay to use App called Scopeknob but it's well worth it. Here's the link if you want to check it out. scope-werks.com/viewitem.php?productid=156

Trying to familiarize myself with chairgun, it looks like elevation, angle, humidity, pressure, etc. have to be entered manually. What is a good way to get updated info for those values on the day in question? I think I could use Ballistic Arc to get most of it, as it has tools for importing that info from a local weather station, and determining angle of inclination or declination by pointing the phone at the target like you are taking a picture, but I’m not sure about elevation. It gets that from your gps coordinates, but it doesn’t display the elevation as far as I can tell so far. I’m sure there is an app that can do that. What do people generally use?
